MLG used 1680 x 1050 because Halo 3 was not really HD, it was 640p (I think) which cause scaling issues therefore choosing a resolution that did not take up the whole screen.

I play on 1080 x 720.

1280 x 1024 would mush everything together, someone is trollin. Reach is at a higher res than Halo 3 but its still not HD. Who knows what they'll use but 1080 x 720 doesn't feel bad and 1680 x 1050 either.

I use 1980x1080 and I think that works pretty well and on the back of the reach case it says that it supports 1080p which is 1980x1080.

always use the max resolution of your monitor. not everyone has the same one, and you will always get the best performance and least lag from using the highest resolution your monitor can display. you would be hurting your gameplay, and probably strain your eyes, by using a resolution lower than your monitor's max.

for reference levels it all depends on what looks best for you. i have a viewsonic and use expanded, whereas my brother has a different viewsonic and uses intermediate.

also, for 2011, MLG is trashing the 1680x1050 viewsonics and getting 1920x1080 acer's. so now the official resolution for MLG is 1920x1080.
