I just got the game last night because my one friend is addicted to it and is diamond in it. So I figured I might as well buy it and have him teach me how to play. But as for the game in general I want to get your guys opinions on it. What do you think of the storyline, online, competitiveness, graphics, ect. This is my first RTS game I ever bought so it will be hard from going from strictly FPS to an RTS haha.

If this is your first RTS then prepare to be bewildered for about a month. Personally i love the game, Game of the Year 2010 TBH.

Single player, Fantastic. Teaches you the mechanics of the game at a steady pace while still providing a challenge if you want to go for all the extra features and achievements on each level. You will get thrown in as a Terran, the easiest race to play. You can even complete the entire campaign only making Marines and Medivacs, thats some terrible strat that came from the Korean ladders.

Multiplayer, Ohhh my are you going to have fun and rage problems at the same time. You need to learn that race you play best with, then you need to learn build timings, what units works against every other unit and how to counter the enemies strat. I personally play Zerg, and my strat goes something like this

10 Scout
Depending on what my Scout see's i will either go
12 Pool or
14 Hatch.

17 Extractor
16 Roach Warren

The best place to learn from is watching VOD's and reading Forums such as Teamliquid.net and Gomtv.net

But keep at it, starting out you will get beaten pretty consistently, but once you know how to play and what strats/race works best for you its all the way to the top from there.

IMO it was a decent game as far as campaign goes I liked the first one and broodwar better because you could choose which race you waned to be and go through the different ones. With SC2 you only get to be Terran and I didn't like that very much I would rather be able to play them all. I do however like the online play it was fun to me but I have been playing them since the first one came out so I already knew how to play and what to expect.

Blizzard did say that they are releasing the other race Campaigns as expansion packs, because the development time of Wings of Liberty was becoming stupidly long. Next one they are releasing is Heart of the Swarm in 2011(Estimated) and Legacy of the Void in 2012(Estimated)

That would be great. I would deffinetly play more often if that was the case. I mean don't get me wrong I like Terren but I loved playing the campaign through as all the different races instead of being limited to just one. Thanks for that update Araneatrox :)

Thank you for your full, in depth opinion. My friend plays zerg as well. He was the one that convinced me to even buy the game and since he is diamond and all he said he'd help me get the basics of the game down. Him and another friend of mine are actually hopefully coming over to my house tonight to help me learn the game and I'll be able to sit backseat and watch them play a couple games with actually knowing somewhat of what they're doing.

i actually just downloaded the demo of SC2 and i just love the game. I mean im no noobie to RTS, but im still pretty bad. i use the hotkeys and all that junk. I tried the basic Terran build, but FAILED! Although on medium i still dominated haha.

What class do you guys use online and why? (Aran you already said yours so you're good already. Unless you feel like adding something)

I just got the game as well Monk3y haha. Also this is my one of my first RTS games.

The game is pretty awesome, and the campaign is pretty solid. Although as others have said, I'd like to be able to play as the other races. Online wise I'm trying to play as Protoss. They appeal to me more than the other classes do.

If you want to play or whatever sometime hit me up, as I'm also in the learning stage of this game.

My battlenet email is [email protected]

Alright I'll add you sometime, I'm playing Protoss as well so we're on the same exact boats right now. I played 3 practice matches so far with my friends help and won all 3. Play a PvP, ZvP, and another ZvP. Protoss was the closest game I had. All of this was won by the help of my friend though haha. I still sorta have no idea what I'm doing XD

Honestly this is the most competitve game title around, and suprisingly as an RTS it doesn't get boring to watch. If you wanna see good plays in action i advice tuning into www.gomtv.net and watch the GSL tournament. If you grasp the game quickly you will be able to tell their build orders etc.

That along with teamliquid.net is how i got to diamond, and watching it will give you a suprising thrill. Hate to say it, but Artosis and Tastless commentary > Puckett & Ghandi (or whoever shows up)

Tastosis!

Worlds greatest duo. They are one of the reasons why i love Sc2 so much, dont get me wrong, Day9 is legendary but nothing beats the Nerd hetro life partners that is the Casting Archon
