I play Halo because i always thought the campaign was inspiration in some way to me, that might sound kind of weird to me the amazing soundtrack and Epic cutscenes are really what got me into Halo and then eventually into the Multiplayer. Most of what got me into the Multiplayer was in the Early Halo 2 days, i used to watch a lot of Team 3D or Str8 Rippin and those guys inspired me to play multiplayer and get better at it! I think some of the pros don't know how much of an effect on the fans. Because i know personally that i look up to them a lot. I love TLN so much kind of random but it is the truth Great community, Great people and these are the types of places and things that draw people into MLG.
Great Post Havkin!

Heres my story! (Hope You Guys Enjoy)
I started Halo 1 when it first came out. My uncle introduced it to me. My two uncles loved playing it, and me and my brother loved playing it to! I didnt have an xbox at the time, so i got one for christmas. I had a 2v2 LAN with my uncles and friends alot and i got better and better, then halo 2 came out, multiplayer nonstop with that game, then halo 3 came out. I stayed up late almost everynight playing halo 3, and soon enough, i went on youtube to search up halo gameplay. I ran across my very first video, which was NEIGHBOR gameplay, i wish i knew which video, but i remember it was him. I learned from him, and hes the rpo i look up to the most! I then bought gametime with him, it was 1 month membership for an hour at the time. He kept me in his party for more than an hour, probably 2 hours. He taught me so much that day, and he 1v1 twice, but he destroyed me both times, i was probably a level 47 at the time. He taught me everything I know about halo today! I started watching MLG and couldnt get enough of it! I supported Neighbor and his team Str8 Rippin at the time! then he went to FB, Instinct, ect. Halo Reach, Im coming for you!

Wow!! love the stories first off ....Now why did i start playing Halo well i was a freshman in my second semster of college the night xbox and halo released at first i so didn't like the new controlers so i really didn't touch it till that summer when i started to hang with a new group. However i think the fact that when i lan with people you could easly get lost in the story and feel like your the character and honselty the music is just entrancing loved every second of it. It wasn't till Halo 2 that i really had the most fun I had just gotten married (should have been time of my life) but i had lost my job and couldn't find work for the first 8 months of the marrige so i got pretty depressed and really halo helped cause it gave me 0other people to talk with and a clan (wow haven't heard that in a long time lol). The cool part was my wife would play halo with me and the clan all new her so it was really nice to share that with her. sadly she has put her controller down were i haven't been able to even if i am level decent in mlg lol. So no matter how bad life is i know the chief and team noble are there and thankfully now i have the lan network so life is amazing

Well... here goes:
I started playing Halo 1 probably in the last year that it was the current game. I went to youth group, and we would just have these birthday parties at the church and they had Halo 1 setup. It looked pretty fun, so I gave it a try. Ended up getting addicted and so me, my brother, and my friend from youth group would hang out all the time and just play Halo 1. Even when we were just having an interesting conversation, we would be ramping Ghosts off Scorpions on Sidewinder or something like that.
Halo 2 came out and my friend decided to get an XBL account for it. He didn't have XBL capabilities at his house, so he would just come over to our house and play it there. He also let me and my brother use his account. We were still doing just casual non-competitive stuff though, like finding every super jump possible (I spent hours alone on Headlong, lol), and also playing the greatest custom games every created (Zombies, Hide N Seek, Cat & Mouse, Tower of Power, Tremors, etc.).
I remember I had a guy on my friends list who was ALWAYS playing MLG on Lockout. I joined one time and got raped and decided that I thought MLG was gay.
Well, Halo 3 came out, and my brother got it a day early (one of just 1000, i think), so I was playing Halo 3 before most other people. I don't have any really distinct memories of the start of Halo 3. It was kinda disappointing... but still a Halo game, so there was no way I was gonna stop playing.
Then I really started hearing about MLG from my brother I decided in April 2008 I would give it a try. The Meadowlands event had just ended and I was interested to check it out. So I watched EVERY rebroadcast available from that event, and I was hooked.
I began to play a lot more with the intent on actually improving, and I did somewhat. And when the MLG playlist came out, that was really the first time I played any of it.
I eventually joined my brother's team the next year and we decided to go to a local LAN tournament. Well, turns out one of our original teammates was really starting to get on our nerves, so we dropped him. We ended up picking up a really casual player who decided it was a good idea to run through ODST campaign for over an hour (at the LAN place) when we could've been practicing for an upcoming match. We got pooped on, and that was pretty much the end of that team.
So in 2009 I heard about Totz having a beastly gaming basement, and decided I would check out the stream they were showing on uStream called LANSnow. Just Totz and other pros running some matchmaking all the time. It was sweet stuff and I decided to keep watching it. Well then LANSnow started charging $5 a month. At first I was a little upset. But I decided to throw down some money. Turns out it was completely worth it. Best MLG streams on earth.
In summer 2010 I had to make a new account on LANSnow (renamed theLANnetwork by then), so I just created an account even though they upped the price for premium and I didn't have the money yet.
Then in the fall I was getting tired of the MLG forums, so I decided to give TLN forums a try. Turns out people here are really nice and give you quite the warm welcome. So I decided to stay.
I saw a thread about a guy named Itchy looking for a team, and I decided to tryout with him and some others. We found a sweet team and all of us got a long very well (Smallz, Itchy, Taco... three of the chillest guys you could meet).
Well MLG Dallas was coming up and I had no plans of going because I was broke. But my brother was very generous and decided to loan me $100 to go. So I hopped in the car with a bunch of locals and good friends and decided to go out. Smallz and Taco were going, so I was excited to meet them.
I ended up hanging out with Smallz and Taco almost all weekend. It was so great because all three of us were at our very first event, so we were all able to share our excitement, and seeing the pros walking around was like a dream come true (sorry if that sounds cheesy to many of you veteran event-goers). I lived off Hot Pockets, Doritos, and Dr Pepper that weekend, and I don't regret it.
I almost forgot to mention that we hung out with Shelly and Heuer for a little bit, and they are cool as f***.
So Dallas was amazing and I decided afterwards that I would try my best to make at least two events each season. It was great, and I was just excited to get home and practice with the team.
Well, we started practicing the next week. And for some odd reason I was playing completely terrible. Basically every game I was being carried by Itchy and Taco. Well, Taco ended up leaving, and I don't blame him at all. He's a good player and deserves better. And Itchy was started to get busy with RL stuff, so no hard feelings at all.
Next thing and it was just me and Smallz. After a small break, we both decided to look for two teammates as a to2. Well, I was still playing bad, and it was embarrassing going massive negative in TLN customs. So I decided to leave the team and take a break from serious gaming.
I ended up getting better after that, but decided I would just lay low.
And that is where the story catches up with the present. I am currently playing mostly casual Halo and running some MLG only when I have people to play with, like Smallz and his team who I have tried out with. I don't fully expect to make the team, and I would certainly not be offended if they found someone else, but I thought I'd give it a try.
And now I am currently longing for the TLN customs like the old days.
The End.
tl;dr
(sorry, you'll just have to read it if you're curious... haha)

The epicness of the OGRE twins got me into MLG, and kept me with it.
That is all.

I stumbled into T2 videos on youtube and learned about MLG and and completive gaming. I couldn't stop watching then I went into MLG matchmaking for H2. Played H2 for less than a month when H3 came out played MLG got a 50 and kept up with all the pros and events. Now it comes to Reach where I look forward to telling T2 thanks for introducing me to the world of competitive gaming.

I got tired of hearing how awesome the LAN streams were this summer so I broke down and paid for one. I was hooked! Then I fell in love with the community and started posting like crazy!
