Well the title says it all, post what settings you use in Reach and why you use those over other settings. For example, here's mine:
Button Layout: Default (I find it easiest to do most everything with this setup)
Sensitivity: 4 (3 is too low, 5 is too high, 4 is just right)
Vibration: On (I don't know why I do this. I think it's just natural and helps me play.)
Inversion: Enabled (Just recently changed, I'll probably be changing this soon if I don't like it.)
Stick Layout: Default (See "Inversion")
Misc.: The Claw (It makes it easy to look and press buttons at the same time.)
NOTE: You don't have to be this detailed.

Which one do you believe is a better button layout and why?: Recon or Default? What are the pros and cons to each one? Discuss.

I personally don't use either of these, but after inspecting them for a good bit of time, I think that the only difference is that the melee went to B, the reload went RB, and the grenade switch went to X.
That being said, I think that default would be a better button layout. There is really no extra benefit of reloading with RB, it's easy enough with X. However, beating down with B is much harder than it is with RB in my eyes, so that provides a huge disadvantage. Switching grenades is a really tiny detail that isn't that important either so I don't think it needs to be switched. So overall, I would say Default is better than Recon. In my eyes though, Bumper Jumper is better than both of them. Jumping with A stinks :p

I use Recon, and I used Default in H3. Every time I try switching to any layout that has beatdown on RB, it throws me for a perpetual loop. But the thing is, I find myself losing a lot of beatdown situations/missing beatdowns, because I can't really "direct" the beatdown as I perform it. I must direct, THEN perform, instead of simultaneously because I must take my thumb off the direction stick to hit B. Thusly, I miss a lot when folks move to the side right before I beat down. I think I'm gonna try forcing myself to go to Default and make it work. I think it'll be beneficial in the long run. Am I the only one that uses Recon?

Default is good for equipment use, but if you play MLG settings im sure sprint will be the only equipment allowed so I would say just stick with BJ or Recon...but it really comes down to what is comfortable for YOU.
Zilla
03-30-2011, 08:25 AM
i would have to go for default over recon mostly because the less time off the sticks the better, and if you have to melee with B you are going to be pulling off the sticks quite a bit. i personally use bumper jumper because the only time you have to pull your fingers from your sticks its for things you dont need to be accurate with like reloading and switching nades. if you have to pull off the sticks for a melee you have to line it up before you move your thumb to B. so all in all in this poll, ive gotta go with default.

Ever since I've played Halo, I've always used the toggle crouch, although now that I am playing mlg, i don't see a need for it, especially if i ever want to crouch shot during DMR battles... Should I change back to the regular crouch, and just get used to the feel? Also, which control scheme do you guys prefer? (please answer using the poll)
MichaelMongrel
03-31-2011, 12:33 AM
Regular crouch works best. It's easier to go in and out of crouch and you can Gandhi hop.
As for a controller scheme, if you really like to add jumps to your 1v1 battles, I suggest Bumper Jumper.
There is only one thing I find the other two settings more advantageous for:

Bumper Jumper, but it all comes down to personal preference.
Never played default. I've used boxer since Halo: CE, then a friend of mine told me to try bumper jumper and I liked it. When I started playing Reach though, bumper jumper really clashed with the armor abilities, so I switched back to boxer.

I'm a Bumper Jumper, in H3 if you didn't use it I would always advise it. In Halo Reach it isn't as good but still has some good uses.
If you jetpack a lot, then stick with Recon/Default. Unless you use the claw technique like me.
Toggle crouch has it's advantages, crouch shooting would be easier, plus supposedly APG uses toggle crouch as it's more disruptive during DMR battle's.
However jumps are harder, gandhi hoping is less effective, and if you clench in tricky situations you may miss a jump or a shot.
For me default outweighs toggle.
Xzwolf
03-31-2011, 08:52 AM
If you like to out DMR players then stick with bumper jumper, because it keeps your thumbs on the analog sticks at all times.
If you like using jetpacks, then use Recon/Default.
Cinderella_Man
03-31-2011, 09:01 AM
I have tried to convert to bumper jumper. If you can, do this! That way you can jump and not have to take your thumb off the analog stick thus allowing you to aim at the same time. I tend to jump a lot thus it would be an advantage but.. just can't do it. I need to have sprint as that left bumper.. it is the only way for me. So, my advice is to try them out like I did, and see which you like the most.
PS: normal crouch all the way.

I'm bumper jumper and sens 2! I played 3 for H3 and most of reach but I've been disgusted about how wobbly my dmr is and I've gone down to 2.
I just got the onza and am still not fully comfortable with it. I've mapped AA to top left and currently shoot to top right. I can't think of a better option fo rtop right beyond reload and a 2nd shoot enables me to really light em up with the pistol.
