Okay I just really need someone to explain to me how open bracket works. My basic questions are about how to become pro and if it is possible to go pro going into open bracket and doing well. How many series do you have to win. Is there any way to know ahead of time who you will play....I also have a few more questions that I can't think of right now.
Will someone just explain everything you know about how open bracket works because I don't know ANYTHING.
I've been to 2 events (dc and dallas) and both were shaped differently than a regular season event DC being a combine and dallas being an exhibition.

Open bracket, just like the championship bracket, is double elimination. The amount of series you play depends on the number of teams signed up. Then, there are those that get disqualified which saves you a series. You will play split screen for the first several rounds, as well as the same gametypes up to a certain point I believe. I think that full screen play usually starts around winners round 8. You can definitely go pro from the open bracket, and I think the highest place any team ever achieved from there is 12th. It was done by Pistol and the Jets.
I believe this is correct, someone else may know better.

And just to add onto what forefront said, you should definitely be able to make it pro from the open bracket easier now at the beginning of Reach then the end of Halo 3. The points and status are all reset so its not such a mountain to climb, that is if your team plays well and places highly. At least that's my understanding :)

How to become Pro?
To get pro status you have to achieve enough points through events to be seeded Top 16 at a following event.
Can this happen at one tournament?
Maybe, although you can place Top 16 coming out of Open bracket, the points that the Pro Teams have gathered over 4 tournaments most likely will still be more than what you accumulated in one top 16 finish.
Is there a way to know ahead of time who you will play?
No, not until the day of the tournament. The way the brackets are set up though, the higher seeded teams play lower seeded teams.
How does the championship and open bracket work?
Basically the open bracket is just like any other double elimination bracket with seeding. Two losses and you are out. Typically because of so many teams there are up to 8 different open brackets, sorta like 8 mini tournaments. The winners of each bracket then gets put into the championship bracket to fight for top 16 with the Pro teams.
The pro bracket still plays during the open brackets but they leave spots open for the winning teams to join later.
make sense? if you have any other questions or want clarification feel free to ask.

You have to place high enough, usually the top 16, enough times to:
1. Accumulate enough points
2. Hold a seed in the top 16
Once you hold a seed in the top 16 you are considered professional.
Championship bracket and open bracket do meet after Winners round 5 or Losers round 7.
To find out who you are going to play, you have to go to the information booth and bother the people there. I would suggest that you not worry so much about who you are going to play, and, instead, concentrate on coming into the match 100% prepared. This way you won't overestimate or underestimate your opponent.

So could someone win the tournament from open bracket if they go undefeated

Yes, but I would be willing to put money on it that no one will win the tournament coming from the open bracket.

yes. you can win even if you lose a series (best 2/3) but you cant lose another.
This is very unlikely though, but yes it is possible.

Although this first event would have a higher probability of this happening depending on which pro players end up getting kicked to the open due to seeding or what have you. Now the pro players that look like they may end up in open bracket I don't think have a chance of taking first.
Just saying this first tourney holds a higher likelyhood than normal. Which is basically like going from Never Ever Going to Happen to Never going to happen.

As far as the points go, after the first tourney, the top 16 gets reset, at least that seems how it is going. The points from the nationals seed top 8, and the reach exhibition seed the top 16. After dallas of this year, those points get thrown out and who is in the top 16 receive those points. So theoretically, if your team gets 7th, you will go into Columbus as the 7th seed. Now, if they did what they did with H3 and do an online tournament to seed dallas (like meadowlands in 08') then this changes. However, that doesn't seem to be the case

I dunno, Escape looks pretty sick. Same with Heaven and Earth. Also Brake and Royal 2 are a To2, and will probably start in AM. It's possible, but who knows.

All you have to do is win the opener and you'll be pro for sure. No more split screen for you then!
