My Host

I've been having some issues with my host. I don't have the best internet out there, but I have been pulling host EVERY single game; especially in matchmaking. I don't have a problem in matchmaking since it feels like an advantage but when I'm playing custom games; I will pull host and my host is GARBAGE for me. Like I did a test and watched my shots register on my host than watched my friends POV against me on my own host and the shots were "lighting up/registering" better for him. So basically what I'm saying is that my host is better for people who are playing against me, rather than me?

However; if I direct my internet then it's just a sick host for everyone? Is there anything I can do to stop getting host so frequently (even if i join games, I'll steal host) or should I just suck it up because most people would die to get host?

So is there anything I can do to make my host consistent so it's good for everyone who is playing. Maybe someone is stealing my wireless and I should put a password on it? Just seeing if anyone can help me out.

I actually had the SAME exact issues when playing customs last night with some randoms. I was host but my shots were barely registering even though everyone was green barred and had no lag. Usually I can see this issue when playing Octagon and I have host too.

My network specs are similar to yours.

12 mbps down
1 mbps up
20-30 ms ping

I'm also directly plugged into my router not running wireless. I'll be changing my internet package to 50 mbps down and 5 mbps up though so we'll see if this changes a thing.

it just pisses me off that the U.S. uses the internet the most more than the entire world and yet we still have the shittiest internet out of all the other countries like Japan and Switzerland, the UK and Germany all have amazing internet.

There has been SMALL changes in our National Broadband plan however that set a higher limit for the qualifications for "Broadband" services. I believe they set a standard that the speeds have to be at minimum higher than 1-2mbps upload and 4-5mbps download. Which isn't an improvement really from what MOST cable companies already provide. However it is for the smaller DSL packages.

Shy its a debate between which is better. The direct line through DSL or Cable internet. In most places like where I live DSL is behind in speed capabilities where Cable always double/triples its speeds (from what my local companies offer) but where DSL is available in higher speeds people tend to prefer it since its not "shared bandwidth". So to answer your question...I guess it depends on whats available in your area.

But it all depends on THAT companies best connection availability. For instance At&t only offers packages of up to 6mbps down and 1mbps up in my city right now. The opposing cable company currently offers 50mbps down and 5mbps up. BIG difference.

Generally you have to have a good upload speed to pull host a bunch (i have 10Mb up and about 30Mb down ;) ) but you may also just have the most compatible NAT out of everyone too... I just realized I haven't slept for about 35 hours so sorry if that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I'm going to die tomorrow in class lol o_O

I just got done with my drive back from Raleigh. ~750 miles. Left at 10:30pm yesterday and go here between 1-2pm today. So tired I don't remember anymore lol >_< But upload speed usually depends on which package you have. When I'm not at school my connection at home is 20Mb down / 2Mb up which is good enough to pull host every once and awhile but I'm still dumbfounded how 0.4Mb up can pull host so much lol

Don't worry you're still pretty coherent in what you type hahah. I wish my local ISP's had a package with 10Mb upload speeds! That would be amazing. But I'm guessing your school uses something crazy like T1.

Well actually a T1 connection is only 1.544 Mb/s per line so this would be faster than that I think... I know that they just upgraded to something really new like a year or so ago.

EDIT: Just thinking about it quick it is most likely some form of a T2 / T3 line.

Seriously I have no clue. In the last week I've only lost host in 3 games. 2 Lone wolves and then in a 1v1 custom game.
Maybe I'm playing kids with TEEERRRRIBBBLE internet but I doubt I'm that lucky.

Yeah shy i have one but when you broadcast wifi through a modem it cuts some of your internet down that partnered with the hold metal Hard Drive i have and the old wifi adapter on my xbox it really slows my xbl connection way down. :(

Yeah I played all day yesterday. Got host every matchmaking game and stole host twice from Magik when I joined his custom game. Even though my host is crap when I play on it.

Yeah I get host in MW2 every couple games.. but nothing like Halo 3. I never asked you Magik but was the host bad at all yesterday for you?

We did alright in MM; we went 6-3. I wasn't playing all that great at the end. Still went positive every game ;)

It wasn't a quitter. We were playing with a non-experienced player to help him get better. It just ended up feeling like a 2v3 (he went -17). I had fun though.
