http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/02/breaking-bungies-destiny-is-an-fps-mmo-claims-fired-contractor/
"An anonymous source, who claims to have recently been let go by Bungie, has suggested their latest game – named ‘Destiny’ and codenamed ‘Tiger’ – mixes FPS elements into an MMO with a Sci-Fi setting. According to the source, he and roughly 30 other contractors were let go yesterday citing “budgetary concerns” from their “publisher”. The game is set to be published by Activision Blizzard. Bungie has updated their site denying their publisher asked them to let go of any staff."
There is too little and too conflicting information to determine the truth here but it is interesting gossip.

I don't find this surprising at all, there have already been around about Activision/Blizzard's next MMO was going to be a new sci-fi MMORPG. I was wondering where they were going to get the experience needed to make a good FPS game though, seeing as that really has not been there game genre of choice. So it makes sense they would team up with one of the biggest and most successful companies in the FPS genre. I can wait to see what it looks like in the future, it Bungie really ends up being a partner with them.

The denial is in the kotaku thing but regardless of the employment issue there could be something true in here. I dream.

fake much? Bungie mmo......
It's really not that far-fetched. Bungie has been in casual talks with Blizzard for a while now, and both of them are partnered with Activision. It's possible.

whats funny is they didnt deny the FPSMMO, just that they were not asked to lay anyone off. and there has been a rumor going around for a while now that Bungie next game will be an MMO is pretty interesting.

I've been waiting for an FPS-MMO for years. Hopefully they do this and do it right.

But after reading the false claims that wed just unceremoniously terminated thirty contract workers without cause or provocation, we felt compelled to respond. Our ability to conscript industry talent into our global siege engine is the single most important factor in our mission to make kick ass games. Until our synthetic neural network achieves a stable state of self-awareness, Bungie is quite literally made up of the people who work here. Thats not just an ideal. We made it a reality by earning our independence, and later by transforming Bungie into an employee owned company. When I say that I own this joint, its not just with a nudge and a wink I literally and legally own a piece of Bungie. We all do.
Some people thought I was being careful with my words Wednesday night. I was. It was way past my bedtime, I was rocking a sniffling baby in the crook of my arm, and I had my laptop perched precariously on my lap. Let me clarify.
We did not experience layoffs of employees or group terminations of contract workers at Bungie. Activision-Blizzard has never asked us to terminate any of our employees or contract workers. There are still contract employees working here on site, and we are actively seeking more talented folks to come and join our family. In fact, we just recently hired a large group of contract employees, bringing them into the full time fold, and we are still on the hunt to add even more talented folks to our Bungie family.
Hopefully, thats enough clarity to satisfy even the most enthusiastic rumor mongers out there. Going forward, we dont plan on responding to any ill-defined accusations provided by anonymous sources. If concrete details are provided, well choose to respond when appropriate, and regardless of whats written about us on the Internet we will never stop finding ways to improve our work environment for every single member of the Bungie family.
Noticed in the update they have a partnership with Blizzard, so it could be a mmo but it does rule out the whole dealio about them firing people, but if they didn't fire people how would this get out?
