View Full Version : Thank you TLN 6 Team LAN Coby's Dad

I spoke with TSquared this evening. He thanked me for teaming up Bert, Coby, and the Suds. He believes in them all (as I do) and the opportunity to push their abilities in amateur gaming – perhaps someday at a professional level. It has been amazing how the pro gamers this weekend have been very supportive and respectful to Reality Check. Thank you Instinct (Tom, Totz, Justin, and Jason) for being so incredibly nice to Coby, making him feel like family – very cool.

They lost in the tournament but won some games, won an 11 game series, and a large number of games were close. Whether they have a top 16 showing or not, it was a great experience for them all.

I want to sincerely thank Mr. and Mrs. P for hosting another great event. The Pennacchio’s (myself included) aren’t young folk anymore and all the work it takes to host an event like this is incredible – Mrs. P and sister-in-law Michelle preparing all the meals nightly/daily and Mr. P orchestrating the event activities as well as replenishing the drinks and trash patrol till 4:00am every day is amazing. I have tried to make myself useful/helpful at the events as much as possible.

I also want to thank Mr. P for making THE last minute call to me to make this all happen for Coby and team Reality Check. Thank you for generosity and belief in Coby that he has the potential to compete at the highest level. You are inspiring, generous, compassionate person as well as a great parent, and supporter of professional gaming!

Thanks to the many Coby supporters and perhaps new ones as well. Coby’s life is so unfair being born with such a seriously f***** up disease – life can be so unfair… Many of you get it and what it really means to him. Your support means a lot to our family and especially our son. The gaming community has given him so much. In Coby’s own words, “Life would not be worth living if he did not have Halo”. Like I said before, this game, the MLG Organization, and the pro and amateur players that keep it alive, keep Coby enjoying life at its fullest. The hot Astro and Dr. Pepper girls at the MLG events help as well! :o)

Reality Check will at the opener in Dallas then in Columbus in June - looks like we are scheduling with Mr. P to come back to the Gaming House in May prior to the Columbus event for some more LAN practice.

Until next time!

Life is indeed unfair to all of us at times. Some more than others it seems. I'm glad he has found something he is passionate about and fortunate enough to find success in the same realm. I will make sure and say what's up at the events this year to you and your awesome son.

glad to see your son had a great time and that they won a series. Who did they win a series against?

Wow. Great first post man. The nerve of some people. This is a ridiculous comment anyway. Coby is a young player without much experience, and yet he is still pretty damn good. In my eyes, everyone on Reality Check was playing on an equal level this weekend and with no experience at all, they played great. You really have to go and look at the specific game scores to see how close a lot of their games were. They truly surprised all of us.

They beat Legendz 8-3

His first post is something negative in a thread that is so positive and awesome. Come on man this isn't the MLG forums. We've got something special here where people care about eachother and respect other people's comments and opinions.

On another note this was a great read. That is definately one thing I love about competitive gaming. Regardless of what you were born with physically, we all have the opportunity to move and play with the same tools... even if the pro's and semi's do it ALOT better than me! :( haha

its not really that unfair of a disease. i was born with spinal muscular atrophy and havent walked since i was 4. i know how it is and its not unfair. life is what you make it, not being able to walk shouldnt be seen as unfair, it should be seen as another kind of opprotunity. i use to coach in mlg and now im 2 semesters from graduating with a bachelors in accounting. i support coby all the way but saying thats its a fucked up disease and its unfair just isnt true.

I had major jaw surgery when i was 13 to remove a large tumor that was infused to my jawbone. i couldn't open my mouth for 3 months. To this day when people ask me about the scars they call me "brave" and say how they could never go through it. I had no choice but to play the hand life dealt me. I sucked it up and made the best of it. the impact it has on my life now is far less then wheelchairman and coby. But being a parent now i couldn't imagine it happening to my daughter. i think the whole situation impacted and emotionaly affected my parents more then it did me. That is why i think Cobys dad called it unfair, the point of view is different from the parents and loved ones.

I agree and disagree at the same time. Being unable to do certain things that others can do and take for granted, like walking, is a bit unfair for the person who can't do that. On the other hand, people who have these types of problems have a different outlook and perspective on life, due to their issues and problems. I think everyone just needs to understand that, just because someone can't do something, doesn't mean that their knowledge/opinion is not any more valuable that any other person's opinion.

I, for example, have asthma. This has prevented me from actively participating in most physical activities. I've just learned to adapt and manage the condition as best I can. Just figured I should chime in and give my perspective.

No disrespect but you dont have the same disease as my son. I respect and understand your point but dont generalize please.

Coby and his family are some of the most genuine people I have ever met. It is an honor to have you guys out lanning with us and I look forward to doing so in the future(As well as some money match ping pong, although ive heard Ken was quite the player in his prime). Coby is such an incredible young man and an inspiration to all.

Ok so I have not had the opportunity to meet or play games with Coby. But from what I hear, from people I respect, is that he is a great person and a good player. I have also heard a lot a down talk towards or about Coby. For those people, I say lay off. Yes, Coby has been dealt an unfortunate hand in life, but he is a good player and highly talked of. If you really feel the need to talk smack on or belittle anyone especially those that are able to conquer such obstacles, then you need some serious help. Respect is earned in this world and Coby has mine. For a community that is really close and friendly, I am ashamed that some are so disrespectful towards others and I really hope that RC destroys their teams at Dallas.

Ken's not in his prime?

OT: Coby is an amazing kid, and deserves everything that has happened in his gaming career. I hope to pick him first in the fantasy draft again next time.

Lunchbox, you are going to get T-bagged at the ping pong table dude! Out paddled and totally owned! The gaming community assumed since I was asian I was a pro StarCraft player - they're wrong! I'm asian and ping pong is in my blood! :o)

That's my version of the trash talk on the TLN forum. lol

Box - see you in the garage in May! Bring it on. I'll get a few more paddles so we can do some 2v2's as well - I am already scouting BigBert. Heard he has an awesome serve.

See you in Dallas!

I was watching RC POV whenever FB wasn't playing and I was surprised by the way the Suds reacted to Coby downing himself when he went negative.
There wasn't a hint of negativity towards him and therefore have started earning my respect.

Good luck to RC at the opener.

coby is fricking amazing and he has a great set of kids to help him....honestly i have heard a lot about the sudd's some things i can figure out are true but they seem like that they generally want to play and help that team succeed from a learning stand point i think they have a really good idea what needs to be improved..also i hope instinct and fb and the other teams that were there run games with them so they can keep improving i see some big things happening from RC...Also if anyone wants to bash coby or RC just think about how many people care about that kid and u will mostly end up running into people at events don't let the one thing they remember be a neg thing people please think before you speak...

I pretty much agree with everyone that this is a troll, but... technically this is a legit comment. He didn't bad-mouth anyone, or anything. It is merely a comment. DROP IT!

To me when thinking about Coby, his disease has nothing to do with him as a player to me. Sure it has made him stronger as person and that is great. But let's say this, imagine if he would of been at the lan and no one knew who he was and just saw him play. People aren't riding a bangwagon with him because of his condition that he has, they are doing this all based on skill. In reality "reality check" did not pick him up due to his condition to make themselves look better. but mostly because they heard about him and said "let's check him out". saw his gameplay and thought it was great and added him to their roster.

With this being said i hope great things happen for coby in his future and i know he will come out on top on what ever he tries at.

That touched my heart. You're an amazing father, I wish I could have had a dad like you.

I'm not going to be negative towards you. Like most people have so far. One guy wants to meet you in an off property parking lot, and "talk". You should really consider other people when you post. It's pretty sad that you would do such a thing. I hope you someday put your big boy pants on, and realize how selfish you are and how low you have become.

Coby has a disease and has little to no experience, but I can guarantee that Coby will make more of his life, than you will. You only said that because you're behind a computer. I've got money on it, that you would not go up to Coby, his father, any of RC, or any TLN member and say who you are or say that again. You should really reconsider coming back to these forums. No one here forgets what you have said or done.

If you respond to this comment I suggest you comment with an apology to Coby, RC, Coby's father, and TLN.

You have a good day, and grow up some.

He damn sure better not to it around me.
