View Full Version : Stream Invites @ PVJ

Eclipse

This is an Idea for possible promotion. Allow the Players that go to PvJ to send a one day (24hr) pass to a few select friends. That have to already be registered, and this would allow them to have access to the Stream for 24 hours after the first time viewing. Maybe make a max of 2 or 3 per person. And Limit it to one invitation per account. This not shows how well this site runs, but helps promote newer members to join.

Just a thought.

Great idea. I'm sure Mr. P might agree. I would limit the invitation to 1-2 people.

Well, generally speaking, PvJ stream passes are pretty cheap, from what I remember last time. And I don't really think that watching PvJ is going to really attract many new customers because it isn't super competitive pro gameplay that people really pay to watch. If a friend of someone going to PvJ really wanted to watch them, they should just buy a stream pass, it doesn't cost that much! :)

But that the realization....no one truly wants to pay to watch PvJ. And to some a $10 fee to watch randoms (not an insult) play against 5-6 pros does seem like its worth it. But to say "Here is an Invitation to watch PvJ for 24 hours, for FREE" would make people want to get more into this site.

EX. I never went to this site until this past 2 weeks before the 6 team lan, because I didn't think it was worth it. I paid the $10 cause I said "what the heck lets see what the pro's are doing in reach before the first event." Now I have become more involved in this community. Even if there is no stream.

Okay, I understand. But my point is that I doubt that anyone will be really intrigued by the stream (no offense once again to anyone attending!) because it isn't really pro teams playing each other. The 6 team LAN is different because that is really awesome stuff to watch.

But I do like this idea. Maybe it would bring in more active users. It's all just speculation! :)

I understand that any one can have an opinion, but any opinion is invalid, unless he has support behind. All i was asking is for his/ her support on their opinion. But if no post support is given, that means that he/ she is a troll.

I think anyone that subscribes to premium should get 1 free weekend pass to give out to a friend, or that there should be a referral system in place that gives you discounts on your own monthly fee when you refer someone to the site. Either way, viral marketing could give this place a really big boost.

I just don't understand why going to PvJ would justify your friends gettting a 24hr stream pass.

Because it allows to see your CLOSE (1-2) friends see how you are faring against the pros. Hell i would give my pass to my bro who wanted to watch :)

It's more than that. From a marketing standpoint, the person invited could experience TLN for free and after the weekend pass expires, may decide to subscribe.

Eclipse said it would be to promote the site. The problem is that it would only be promoting the site to the 30, or however many, people who recieve the free pass. A better idea would be to have weekly/monthly drawings for 24hr/entire weekend stream passes, or to give like 2hrs of free stream per ip address.

First its not 30 people its 54, the reason for the small amount is this. TLN is a business, and in the long run they are trying to make some profit off of this site, If they weren't the stream would be free and we would not be having this discussion.

I Like how you state that the base idea is bad,

I knew someone would point that out. Just because I gave a better idea doesn't mean that I agree with the basic idea of giving away stream passes. I think my idea is better, but I still wouldn't want TLN to implement it.

ACTUALLY, your a troll b/c ur posts are always things like. "bad idea" or "coby to get dropped from RC"
You provide little to no explanation until your DIRECTLY confronted with it.

It's not a personal attack, he's just not on the same level as the rest of rc. I don't understand why everyone is getting so offended about me saying that.

I did that because I don't see the point in cutting down on double posts, these forums aren't very active. Also, I'm not really sure how to use multiple quotes in one post.

I think this is a good idea and it's progressive thinking in the right direction. TLN is a business and businesses always need to be thinking about the next move and of other ways to promote themselves. Sure, it might only be a free pass for 54 people but they have friends as well so there's no telling how far it could reach given a chance.

yoooo hide pleaser think before you post, i don't want this to turn into a flame war. This thread is to point out the idea that TLN should allow the capability to have a Certain Members give out the capability for new members or friends to watch the stream. The reasons why I state that PVJ should be used are as follows

1) Increase in new members, that will watch the stream.
2) Promotes how fun PvJ can be, because it will only be during that time period.
3) New members will start to visit the site, and join in on the Fantasy games.
..............(real fun, and should be promoted with the invitation)
4)After new members see how good the site is, they will want to come back and be more active with the site.
...............Either by going premium to continue watch the LAN and/or participating in the forums.
5)New members will tell friends, and so on and so forth.

Simple 5 step process to world domination....;)

Totally agree! I have lots of family and/or friends that wanna watch gaming (just because they've never seen it before)
I can't wait for step 5 :D

i love the idea. I think for some people who's parents think gaming is a waste (mine lol ) it would be a good way to show howmuch the game has evloved and that yes its a business just like anything else (granted its dominated by kids that are anywhere from 3-12 yrs younger than i am ) but still a chance to spread the love around should always be a good idea. now are we talking like if you go to pvj you get 5 each? cause 15 joes x 5 passess per is going to add up i think maybe three would be a good amount

Eclipse
02-24-2011, 10:59 AM
Gweedo yes we are talking about the people who do go, do to possible cost increments of either 15 or 18 people at 3 times

here is some math

18 players x 3 passses = 54 passes x $10(month subscription)= $540 x 1/30(one day pass) = $18 used.

In my opinion spending $18 to potentially get $540 is a good idea.

I do think it would be cool to do something like this. Or some sort of temporary guest pass to give out to close friends, girl/boyfriends, etc.

As for bringing more people to purchase passes, i think it would be a good idea to allow users to get a preview of the content 30 min or an hour to where they can see what they are getting before they commit to getting a steam pass. Even with the PvJ, users can see the preview and may like what they are watching. So in turn, they buy a steam pass. Just because joes are there doesn't mean its going to be bad game. But one doesn't know unless the fully commit.
