So, one of my Xboxes got the E71 error and I requested a repair through Xbox.com and it turns out it would cost $100 to fix. Ain't no way I was going to pay that much for a stupid dashboard error.
I was looking around the xbox support site and I saw that you can extend your warranty for $25 for 1year or $50 for 2years. So I'm just going to get the 1 year extended service plan, have my problem fixed for 1/4 the price and be covered for the rest of the year. I didn't realize that extending the warranty would be that cheap!
So there you go guys, I'm sure some of you have a spare broken xbox 360 somewhere in your closet you would like fixed for cheap :). You can purchase the extended warranty through the phone (1-800-4MY-XBOX) or at any of the Microsoft Store retail outlets (Store Locater (https://store.microsoft.com/Locations)).

That sounds good and all, but can you extend a warranty after the original warranty has already expired? I would guess probably not, but if so, that is a great plan.

I would also shop around. I know here in Rockford there is a place that claims (havent needed to use their service) to fix most xbox errors for something like $40 bucks. Might be worth looking into.

This is what I was thinking and it's probably not going to happen. Big companies like this aren't going to let something like this slip through the cracks for long.

Boy do I wish I saw this thread 2 months ago. I tried fixing it myself after my warranty ended, thinking it were my only option. Nevertheless, thanks for the help man, great find!

Sorry I forgot to update you all.
Yes, you would have to extend your warranty while you are still within your original warranty. So you cant be a sneaky beaver. :/
