View Full Version : Elitists - What is Not Desired

Well, I'm always in the MLG forums as most of you know (mainly the Reach Discussion thread), and I realized something that I never want to see happen in this community. This 'something' is an 'elitist'. Basically, an elitist is someone that talks down to people and isn't afraid to do so simply because of their popularity or respect in the community. They know everyone in the community is 'scared' of them because of either their join date, rep, number of posts, or other things. They think they're the 'royalty' of the forums and so, they take advantage of the respect they have gained. This introduces an unfriendly and unfair atmosphere, which will not be tolerated.
So, what I ask every one of you, is to carefully comprehend and think about what each member is saying. Do not look at a name and simply disregard the post or look at it as stupid because the name has a bad rep in the community, or because they're a 'new kid'. Because a lot of the time, the person has a bad rep for wrong reasons. For example, simply because they're a fan of a team or certain players that a majority of the community isn't fond of. That's not a good reason at all to look down upon someone. Also, you'll find that a lot of the 'new kids' bring a lot to the table. They bring new ideas and different angles to approach things.
Also, this applies to the opposite people. I don't want you to look at a post and automatically glorify that post because you see that a moderator or respected member posted it. Because we also make mistakes. We're not always right. We may say stupid things at times.
I want you to read and understand posts with an unbiased view towards the person posting. This way your view isn't fogged/blinded by your attitude towards the person posting.
It all comes down to attitude and judgment.
Let's keep it fair, calm, and fun.

I'm aware. I just gave a more specific example with more explanation of what is not wanted. Your thread is all about respecting the new member that will come in, and to treat them with respect. This is more about how not to judge a post by the person posting, but by the quality of the post itself.
Imagine taking the names off of everyone's posts. Especially in the MLG forums... things would be so much more different. You would see people criticizing posts by people that you'd never imagine to get criticized. Lol, that sentence sounds broken...

We have a really good thing going on the TLN forums right now. I have yet to see any of the insults, sarcasm, and other assorted insanity that is so prevalent on other forums. It's up to us to keep that atmosphere going. New members will see that the common thread on these forums is intelligent and respectful discussion and continue that trend. As soon as we allow nonsense to become acceptable, this place will become a lot less fun for everyone involved.
Now, about fixing that RRoD... Grr. Anger.

The moral of this story kids, is that don't make it turn into the MLG forums. I honestly don't know how much neg rep I have gotten for trying to help people out and some wanna-be 'pro' goes "you don't know what your talking out noob" or "GTFO".
Keep it real TLN community, your the best!

I hope this continues on here. I made a similar Plea on MLG now that they have the new forums up so hopefully both sites will end up on the same level of class.

I'm sorry dude, but after playing and forging with many of these "elitists" that you speak of I have to say your completely wrong. I've only been a member of the MLG Forums for little under a year, and have only been forging since Reach, but these "elitist" have been good natured guys. They're extremely polite, give all forgers new and old a chance, and even help out newbies such as myself with our maps. I now play customs on a regular basis with a good number of them, and I have to say they are some of the best guys I've ever played Halo with.
No offense to you or any of the members here, but I find this slight against the MLG crew to be both shallow and unwarranted. We're all in this for the love of the game, no personal pride.
This thread has absolutely nothing to do with forgers.

The Predictions thread on MLG is ridiculous. Every post with a prediction has a negative reputation. Everyone argues with each other. So dumb.

I apologize if I ever came across as a elitist. I really do enjoy the environment here on TLN. And I couldn't agree you with you more Krillin. That is why I come here now for my predictions thread..

when Mr. P, maybe one of the people that has a "right" to act above everyone else (because it is his effort being put forth on the website) is acting equal to everyone else, you know we have good things rollin, keep it up guys!
Like i have said before the MLG community is pretty closely knit because of everyone's lifestyles are similar and all but TLN community is so much tighter because it is the REAL players who want to REALLY stick together and put up for each other! #LFG

Imp3nded thinks he can just say whatever he wants and people listen. LOLz. Haha. I agree with you completely Imp3nded. I didn't post on the MLG forums because of the overall vibe it gave off. TLN community is friendly and helping. As long as we do our part like Mr. P said this kind of thing will never happen to TLN.

haha
I've been slumming around here for about two weeks and have gotten nothing but good words from people. I like this place. :]

I've got to agree with Icy here, although sometimes immaturity does come out of people, and people say some rather ignorant things. I think TLN has so much positivity, as a percentage it is off the charts.
So many genuine people here, I am always pleased when I meet a handful of people like that. Here it is unrivalled, it seems on the MLG forums I struggle to find 1 person like that, on TLN it's the other way round.
So although I think it is vital for this community to grow and maintain that attitude, sometimes you've got to take a step back and look at what as a community you have accomplished. Which is; I look forward to integrating myself into the community and so many other's do too.

I wish some of the mods on this forum read this thread this morning. After reading and learning about what happened at the event, I have to agree with Mr. P to an extent. His disappointment with the community is warranted. However, the censorship and immaturity by some of the mods towards legitimate posts really made this end on a poor note.
Bye TLN.

I will agree that posts were deleted that shouldn't have been.
The community should reread a thread like this.

This really needs to be read more! I wish this could somehow go on the front page. I am sick of seeing all the "trolling" going on and disrespecting other members.
After lurking around the MLG forums for several years i never really got into posting that much because of the lack of maturity from a lot of the community. I've spent a little bit of time reading some of the threads on these forums and it is refreshing to actually see mature debates and discussion. So i hope this community stays this way because it is a great thing they have going on here.
