A few days ago (Sunday I think) someone released a program that uses an algorithm to use bits of used microsoft points codes and generate new 160 msp codes. This was posted on the MLG forums and I'm sure some of you saw it and maybe took advantage. An estimated $1.2 million in MSP were generated. Microsoft is working on invalidating all unused codes that were generated. As well they can track all codes that were generated and who used them. I expect them to take action against anyone who used these codes. Microsoft issued a statement to Kotaku about this issue. Link is below

Well microsoft charges way to much for points, maybe this will show them they need to stop being so greedy.

LoL. But 1.2 million dollars is nothing compared to how much money microsoft has.

I really hate microsoft. Everyone expected the price for Xbox live gold membership to drop, then half a year later....IT RISES!!!!
Also, they over charge everything on the marketplace. Modern Warefare 2 for example is 4800msp ($60) and how old is that game?
They just released something called Xbox Live Lab for their own personal greed. You test your accout for an hour to help microsoft and all you get is an avatar item. Also Xbox Rewards is stupid. You get 200 msp for renewing with a 1 year code. What am I going to do with 200msp?
They got what they deserve.

Everyone says Microsoft is greedy because of their prices for the products and services. This is because of supply and demand. If everyone would not buy their products, they would charge a lower price to have their sales figures rise, but everyone still buys the products and service so you cannot only blame Microsoft for this. Its just as much the consumers fault for agreeing to purchase items from Microsoft for these prices.

As for Rewards and that new Lab thing. 200 MSP is better than nothing. In Canada, we don't even have the rewards program yet I believe. So we get nothing for buying a 1 year subscription. So instead of getting upset about only getting 200 FREE MSP, you should be happy they are giving you something instead of nothing.

This may not be a huge number to microsoft as a whole. Howwever, this is a decent chunk from their MSP revenue taken away. Anyone that had $1.2 million stolen from them would make a big of the situation.

I'm not stupid about the supply and demand. I got an A in Economics in high school and I might study it in college.
It's kind like of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, they can charge as much as they want because no one else sells the same thing as competitors do. So the government can't touch them pretty much. And I really hate welathy people who do this. Michigan's new governer for example, cut taxes for successful businesses because "they are working too hard." These are the words from a former greedy rebublican businessman. The middle class people are the ones working too hard and what microsoft is doing is for the main people and investors of microsoft, not their workers because they had the same wage since 2001.
There is some good things about microsoft though, but there isn't many.

msp are very overpriced, but i wouldn't ever trust a msp generator due to various things like possibly getting banned not worth it if your account gets banned imho

It's actually because of elasticity of demand. Microsoft is working with a very inelastic demand when it comes to the 360, that is, there aren't many substitutes people can switch to if they raise prices, we're all still paying for it.

Also, they actually offer the 200 MSP as an incentive for you to spend money to pick up an item that is >200 MSP. It's not because they're being generous. That would violate a principle rule of economics, people are selfish.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I kinda figured Supply and Demand sounded wrong lol. As for the 200 MSP for buying a subscription. I'd still like that more than getting the nothing I get right now. Least its something!!

if someone stole 20 bucks from you then you are going to be pissed off right?
in the end 1.2 million dollars is 1.2 million dollars and losing money is never a positive no matter how big microsoft is

Free? Heck no. I wouldn't be able to keep track of all my friends. how often are you going to change your name anyways, really? I'd say 10 bucks is fair considering other services wouldn't allow you to do it at all.

I totally agree with you. Free would be ridiculous. However, I do think 10 bucks is just Microsoft being silly. Despite the price, they should let you change your name like once a year if you choose. They're just money whores. I am honestly glad this happened. It's ashame that it didn't cost them even more money than it did.

Ban hammer is WAY to extreme for this type of offense. If you give 14 year olds free codes and not expect them to use them your crazy, even though they put alot of money and effort into xbl it is still mainly used by a younger age group and even though this is a substantial amount of money lost its still is unacceptable to punish immature people that used these codes.

I just think a suspension would give the exact same less that a ban would teach.

The government controls the prices of general things that are not specially sold.
