What makes you mad in Reach?

just want to know what makes people mad in reach, for example i got mega angry last night how i kept searching by myself and found teams of 4 all the time bungie really need to rank the playlist

There doesn't seem like much of a trend when it comes to getting put against to4's...there are nights when it seems like I all play are team of 4, and others where its a team of 4 randoms, etc. I wouldn't get too angry about it though imho, because its going to happen and its best to just roll with it.

The only gripe I have about Reach is the connection issues I've been going through, and honestly I'm not the only person whose ever had the problem so its not a big deal. I will say this though...the Needler...blows my mind. When I'm messing around in Team Slayer or Big Team, the Needler can track people forever! Luckily, needles fly slower than DMR rounds. ;) Nothing about the MLG playlist bothers me too much though...other than my inability to play it effectively.

If a player is trying their best and calling out, then you really shouldn't get mad at them

When I get into A DMR battle with someone, and instead of shooting, the person like backs up and throws 2 nades. Takes no friggin skill what so ever and it makes me want to scream. Decrease the effective radius of the nades please. I get so pissed :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

I actually dont mind the playlist being unranked, because yea sucks that some nights you seem to only find teams of 4 to play against....but it sucks even more when you go on with your team and you cant find a game. i hated h3 cause of that. i like always finding games now.

As far as what i hate most, i really hate armor lock and i hate it when ppl go for the cheap double melee instead shooting.

I get mad when it seems like I'm shooting the right way, but my shots aren't connecting. This is part of the reason why I quit playing competitively.

I mean, I see videos of everyone else shooting just as fast as I do in the right situations, but for me, sometimes the shots don't fall.

the lag...

the lag makes me mad in this game more than anything else. i think, especially now with bloom, that it gives players the most unfair advantage i've ever encountered in a competitive FPS game.

when you play online games on the PC, you are playing usually off of a dedicated server that you connect to. this is neutral to all players, so usually your connection depends on how close you are to the server and your own individual network provider. most competitive FPS players on the PC prefer to play on servers that are central based, because it gives players an equal advantage in terms of ping and everyone is pretty much on an even level without having someone with a significant upper-hand.

xbox live however forces us to play on a peer-to-peer network, which to me is just plain lazy and irresponsible by microsoft. we pay for xbox live monthly, and our service shouldn't rely on peer-to-peer connections that sometimes give single players or groups of players a clear advantage over the rest of the people in-game. add halo: reach's bloom to that factor, and you have an inconsistent play experience almost every time you get into a new game. you always have to adjust your rate of fire for the new connection. top this off with the fact that bungie never gives you the ability to choose for yourself who should be the host of a game, and also the poor details on our HUD that let us know whether or not we are lagging. green bar/yellow bar/red bar. why not just give us a ping number?

the solution would be simple. either microsoft should set up dedicated servers for online games to be hosted off of, for all games utilizing xbox live... or microsoft should offer up dedicated servers for players to host custom games off of for their respective titles on xbox live. for some reason, microsoft doesn't want to invest in something like this... probably because they are a corporation working for profit and this isn't something they feel is necessary.

the community...

the xbox/console community is probably one of the worst communities i've ever come across. especially for competition. pc's competitive community revolved around counter-strike/mirc/and leagues like CAL/CPL. these communities were already organized to the point where someone could log onto IRC and find a team scrimmage within seconds. the CAL/CPL league was split into sections... open/intermediate/invite and really gave teams the ability to progress themselves through the ranks and become a more successful team through practice and networking.

xbox's console community always has seemed very disorganized and amateur to me, even when i played halo 2. it's built upon good old boy networks who are all tight knit and only practice or play with each other. the xbox live friends list limits you to 100 friends, which means you can't even get decent players on your friends list unless you have connections or are somewhat known because they won't remove anyone else on their list to play you. finding scrimmages means going to the MLG forums and making a thread in hopes of someone responding, usually a process that can take 15-20 minutes and sometimes ends in no results.

not to mention the player attitudes. everyone thinks they are somebody, and condescend, insult, even threaten other players on xbox live. there is no sense of community involved, it is just a bunch of egotistical bratty young kids who think they are the shit. most of them haven't accomplished anything significant either, so they all have an unjustified sense of self-importance to them that i just don't get.

this could be solved easily with IRC, but xbox/console players fundamentally just don't understand how to use the program or usually don't have a computer that is within the vicinity of their console. i know several times MLG attempted to create an irc community, but none of the attempts were anywhere near successful. early in halo 2 i remember pro players logging onto irc when the Halo PC community had a good thing going there, even StK had their own channel and idled on a regular basis but that all fell apart slowly.

mlg tournaments...

i've watched over the years MLG grow into something amazing, and i definitely think they've made leaps and bounds but something that still bothers me is the format of their tournaments.

free play areas at Washington D.C were incredibly small. probably 2-4 stations set up, with very long wait times. i really think it would help for tournaments to have BYOX (bring your own xbox) stations set up for free play during the entire event. it would help teams to prepare for their upcoming matches, improve the overall quality of teams showing up to the events, and bring the community closer together. it shouldn't be only the pros who get to enjoy free playing before and after events, and we shouldn't be forced to LAN in our hotel rooms on shoddy set ups.

also the equipment was out dated, but i can understand that and it looks like they upgraded.

Zig8, great post man. While I agree and disagree with some of your points the main one you hit was the XBL community. I couldn't agree with you more. Most nights if I don't have any friends on I will simply mute all players cause I'm tied of saying "what's up guys" and getting the response, "F*** You Fa*." I call it "flexing your xbox muscles."
Your comment about false sense of entitlement was spot on.

Now i'm a white guy. But one of the most annoying issues is the rampant use of racial slures. It's almost like the aryan nation has decided to recruit on XBL. It makes us look really bad. Granted I don't experience this as much on the MLG playlist as opposed to Team Slayer or Arena matches, but its still there.

a buddy of mine actually brought this to my attention. He feels that if you leave psych profile blank the players found are better. Just his opinion though, I am unsure on what I feel if this is right or wrong. Maybe you can test the waters though, see what you prefer?
