Hey guys, I figured since there isn't a thread, I might as well make one. Everyone can discuss this stuff here.

Basically, what are your favorite books/short stories/plays/poems/sonets/etc.? How about your favorite author?

Currently, I'm reading Lord of the Flies. I have no clue why I've never read it before! It's amazing! It's an allegory, and every detail in the book makes you think about another aspect of it. If anyone has ever read it, please tell me Simon is your favorite character. I'm only on chapter 4, but he seems to be a Christ-like figure on the island, and I am in love with how he acts with both the leaders and the "littluns".

Discuss.

For all those that love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc (the list goes on). If these books fit the description of your favorites, you must read Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss! Great, great, great, great book. Great, great, great!!! Lol, hope you get my vibe.

My favorite book ever is The Catcher in the Rye. I've read it 18 times. It pretty much sums up my world views neatly. The Great Gatsby is my next favorite. I think I'm a Romantic at heart. I mean, who isn't flattered by Fitzgerald's beautiful, poetic writing?

The Celestine Prophecy, ANYTHING Stephen King, The Chariots of the Gods?, 1984, Lord of the Flies, The Picture of Dorian Gray (omg fantastic book), Less Than Zero, American Psycho, anything Brett Easton Ellis.

I love reading. Nothing beats a great book, IMO.

I've been wanting to read A Song Of Ice And Fire series. Thank you for starting this thread. It's getting me motivated to actually read something. Plus I heard George R. R. Martin's epic novels are epic.

I've only heard amazing things about it. I downloaded the sample ebook on itunes to hold me down until I can get a physical copy soon.

I borrowed that book from a teacher and forgot to give it back. It was pretty sad, I feel bad for that kid.

If you like a good long, but thrilling infection book, read this:
http://0.tqn.com/d/bestsellers/1/0/Y/C/-/-/passage.JPG

And by infection, I mean kinda like 28 Days Later. Only this story has more depth.

Definitely a good read. I know your life has had a few ups and downs, so this is for sure a good book to pick up.

I've been getting into Malcolm Gladwell's books recently. they are collections of his essays and you can read most or all of them online. I especially like this one about eh difference between choking and panicking.
http://www.gladwell.com/2000/2000_08_21_a_choking.html

These are tough yet fascinating reads. Guns Germs and Steel and Collapse by Jarred Diamond. They explain the forces infolved in building our societies and how we stumbled along the way.

Neil Stephenson is a great speculative fiction / cyberpunk writer. The Diamond Age is amazing as is Snowcrash.

Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game is a classic and a natural for anybody dreaming of going to UNSC training.

Robert A. Heinlein is one of the best science fiction writers ever. His Starship Troopers is great. Don't let the B movie adaptation dissuade you.

If you have not read Harry Potter or JRR Tolkien's Hobbit and Lord of the Rings you have to .

Revelations gets even scarier when the Left Behind series puts it into perspective like it really does.

I've enjoyed a few books we read in school, but not many. We read "Rebecca", which wasn't too bad. But I'm not a fan of Homer, or any other authors with that "flowery" language.
