View Full Version : Witnessing a "Bandwagon Effect"

Witnessing a “Bandwagon Effect”

In the very first series of MLG Dallas, Impact preformed one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, 3-0ing the number one seed team, Final Boss. Their train of destruction did not stop there as they have continued to crush almost every team including the recent upset over the victor of “The Pool of Death”, Believe the Hype. Due to the way that the pool system works, Believe the Hype was placed in an insanely difficult pool (D) due to their seed. Nevertheless Impact emerged victorious while only dropping a single game.

Impact, a new team to the league, is composed of three fresh faces to the pro circuit: Amish Acorns, Adrenaline and Lethul, and long time league veteran, Neighbor. After completing their match against Final Boss, Ogre 2, a member of Final Boss, stated that the reason that Final Boss was crushed was due to the fact that all the members of Final Boss “didn't have a chance to warm up” before their match. He then went on to say that Impact comes out strong and maintains that momentum throughout the game. The idea that Impact won due to Final Boss's lack of practice that day, is becoming less plausible with the recent 3-1ing of Believe the Hype. The reason that Impact is such a deadly lineup is due to their incredible communication and their individual ability to “go off” at any period in time.

Neighbor has also adapted his playstyle to the new squad by staying with his team, forfeiting the sniper to teammates who are hot with it, and an evident increase in patience. He seems to be feeling more and more comfertable with the team as the tournament progresses. I have watched numerous neighbor POV's and I have never seen him play as selflessly and as well as he has been this tournament. His new playstyle might not make him as fun of a player to watch as it was in Halo 3, but he has become a much better teamplayer. If you want to watch a statwhore, go watch Call of Duty.

Everyone who knows me will know that I have a huge biased towards Team Darkest Hour (although its decreasing throughout the tournament). Dont get me wrong, I would still LOVE if Darkest Hour came from behind and won the entire tournament. Sadly for me, thats not likely to happen. But looking back at Impact, the only thing to make their journey even more epic would be if Final Boss was in the finals with them. However, I'm going to call it now. Impact to win MLG Dallas 2011.

Great post. I have to say, I was secretly rooting for Impact while they were playing against FB, even though FB is MY team. Although I was super upset FB lost to them, I'm glad Impact has done so well. Call me for hopping on the bandwagon, but I see this team going huge the rest of the season!

I noticed everyone liking them too right after the upset. kinda annoying. I like them but I wanted them to win since they picked up neighbor. I wanted them to win as much as they could at the 6 team lan but they didnt do a ton of that but im pumped now!

bth definately was not the same team that played TD the night before, but I see Impact running through SQ if they play the way they did tonight. Interesting game looking to be is the FB vs TD that looks likely to happen

Actually i just enjoy writing articles. If they want me to be an official TLN article writer, awesome. If they dont, thats okay too. I'm not going to stop though unless they ask me to.

Impact is playing amazing, yes. No doubt. I don't know if they will win Dallas, but they could. The bandwagon hoppers do annoy me though. There are plenty of people saying that they love Impact now just because of this and that kind of annoys me. I was an FB fan before they went on their win streak and I remain an FB fan to this day and forever. I wouldn't count them out either, they have taken care of everyone in pretty convincing fashion after losing to Impact, and I think they are ready to go all the way here. They beat Soul 3-1 and Soul beat Impact 3-2, so do not count them out.

There will always be bandwagon hoppers in every sport in the world though, so witnessing it is just something we have to deal with. I know the article wasn't really about bandwagons at all, but I really wanted to talk about it :) Very good post once again HEA7

I liked Impact before Dallas, I never expressed it. Bandwagon people do annoy me, but you said it yourself. They are always going to be there. But, you have to think. There isn't many noticeable teams to like.

I'm right there with you Chickens! I'm impressed with Impact and I want them to go far, but nothing will ever replace my boys from FB. :]

Good read, but you make it seem as though Ogre 2 was making excuses as to why Final Boss lost. Ogre 2 did not say that they did not get a chance to warm up, but that they have a hard time playing well the first few matches of the tournament. He then went on to say that they really need to work on overcoming that because they no longer get to play against the lowest seed first, which they used to warm up with in past tournaments.

I just think that its a known fact that Final boss always starts off slow, but pick it up later in the tournament.
We have all witnessed this in the TLN LANs as well.

I was a fan of Impact and Warriors before Dallas... But I'm expressing my opinion more because they're winning!

Really liked Impact and Invictus going into this as underdogs cause I still felt they had the advantage. Sucks Invictus is going to make DH be in the 13-16 area after the first series tomorrow :D

If Krillin was still here, I wonder what he would say. He was a big doubter of the recently turned pros.

First off, great read man.
Secondly, I feel that the drop of Blaze and pick up of Neighbor wasn't really hyped up enough. People were so set on vet teams to wipe through these Reach pros and stay at the top. All throughout watching the first series, Puckett, Shock, and Ghandi were seriously baffled by Impact beating FB. I feel that this team didn't get enough hype or credit from the very beginning of the tournament, and I'd really like to see them stick together and dominate this year with the amazing talent they have.

im really wondering how the bracket will go seeing as there are more Costly matches than anything its like like we have a handful of teams in winners we got 2 teams in winners the rest are fighting for their lives in losers i feel like its Upset City over here but Congrats to both SQ and Impact for sitting pretty in their top 3 placings lol they really played well this event.

All aboard the bandwagon!

I think I will hop on, not because they are looking like a serious contender for Dallas. As everyone knows the streams haven't been working consistently but Neighbor just Tweeted that him and the team will play random 4v4s with the community to make it up to everyone.

I think that is a great attitude, it's isn't something Neighbor or Impact caused or could change, yet they will be giving away free game time. I don't think I will participate, but for the kindness they have a fan in me.

Actually during right before the SQ V. Invictus match, Puckett said that Ogre 2 said that we were all coming in cold and that Impact was already hot. I was taking notes of what was being said and during the gameplay so i would make sure what i was writing was accurate. He may have said that they need to work on playing well for the first few matches, but he didnt say that directly after the match.

I like Impact because of its up and coming talent, with the exception of neighbor, who has been a well known pro for some time. I think its hard to not find bandwagons anymore, with only 16 professional teams and on top of that you have probably 70% of those teams changing up their roster every tournament. You will always have fans that follw their favorite player or favorite squad. Since we are very limited with our choices of teams you will always be talking about the same teams over and over, just with different rosters.

Excellent Point. And given everything that is going on right now in our community (you know what i'm talking about) I find myself an "Agency" fan and I've never seen them play!
