Hey guys I just bought Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum and anytime I try to import a clip I captured from my Hauppauge PVR that is stored as a .MP4 file it crashes the whole Movie Studio program!!
Do I need to convert these files into another format that is more compatitible with this software and if so what format would be best to convert it to so I can start editing! :(
Any good free video converters out there I can use?

I figured it out guys. I have a media converter that came with my Hauppage and I converted the .mp4 file into a wma and now it accepted it without crashing lol. If any other montage editors are on here send me a F/R on XBL for future help. Hopefully I won't need anymore haha

don't know why its not accepting his MP4.
Are you using Total Media Extreme? When you go into the capture module click on "PLAYSTATION 3" on the bottom left. Your video will be recorded in .MT2S format. easy to just drag and drop, insteasted of recording in .MP4, convertig, importing.
Edit: Also, when you installed it, maybe there was an option that you skipped through asking what media do you want to associate with sony vegas.

Yes I am using the Total Media Extreme but I was recording under the Xbox360 tab. Should I record it under the PLAYSTATION 3 settings? I was choosing the Xbox360 setting because that's what I was recording it from. It'd be awesome if choosing the PS3 let me just drag and drop the clips into Vegas instead of having to convert every single one.
And also just another quick question. Whenever I move some clips around or add some effects or transitions the clips get all choppy when I try to watch them in the main player. Any tips? Do I need to render it or something as I work through it? ='s less rendering time at the end and smoother watching during the process?

yeah. I can see how this can confuse people. The Xbox360 setting records in .MP4 and The PS3 setting records in .MT2S. I guess they did that because some people record TV Shows with the HD PVR to watch on their console and each console plays different formats.

Yep it happens. Just pause the video near the transition, press up on the arrow keys a couple times to "zoom in" on the video track, and key over the transition a couple times by pressing right on the arrow keys until the end of the transition, press space bar and key over it again to cache it in memory. then try playing it and see if its smoother. If not, repeat.
Happens to me. I need moar RAM!
In sony vegas before rendering you will always find the clips will be choppy, unless you change the view setting to a lower or lowest setting.

Thanks for all the help guys! Ash do you only render at the end when your project is done and really to upload or can you render as you go to make it less choppy?
And thanks vontoxic that did make it a little smoother. I am working from a laptop so I don't think it's the fastest computer lol
