I cant really say much untill i get some decent customs on the go for reach. Atm, it just seems as tho people have no idea how to use the DMR, i cannot count the amount of times ive won a DMR battle when the enemy hasnt hit any more than 2 shots on me.
Slow and Steady people!
But when we get the TLN regular to custom with i reckon we will see the games true colours pop out

Played a good bit of matchmaking. My favorite map is Countdown. I love it so much. I also love the Concussion Rifle. Pinnacle's spawns are trash. The Cage is trash. And right now I've started forging my map.

I'm very bad with putting names with maps but in all honesty; I think ALL the maps are trash. Except maybe for the H2 remake. That is the only downfall this game has. You have so much you can do in this game that it gives you unlimited options. I just wish they would've put more effort in the maps. (I hate forge and forged maps)

I think Sanctuary, Countdown, and Ivory Tower are easily the 3 best maps right now. The Cage is so annoying, I get spawned behind too much and there are only two routes to take and it is man cannon or that elbow. It is trash. Ascension is okay, it can get annoying with the spawns (spawned top rockets 4 times in a row and would spawn mid map with snipers staring at me).
I think in MLG v1 that Sanctuary will be Slayer and Flag for sure (2/11)
Ivory Tower is a Slayer gametype at least (1/11)
Countdown i see a slayer and maybe ball (2/11)
I see Zealot being able to run CTF, Ball, and Slayer though I haven't even been able to play it yet I have seen GP's. I also don't think it is that great of a map.
Maybe Ball on Cage
Forged maps are clearly going to be the popular idea for the first settings. I don't think there are near enough quality MLG maps right now to fill out 11 gametypes and 5 of them being slayer and 4 flags and 2 time games

<3 Hurry up.
Reach is good for me, so far. The campaign is more fun than the H3 campaign. The story moves pretty quick and keeps you engaged. MM is pretty standard, still adjusting to the DMR, personally I like the needle rifle more right now. Nothing seems to be too OP, pretty balanced. Forge is absolutely sick, as expected. I built a new octagon, WIP though, still tweaking. Who wants to test it?

I completely agree. Its sad that all the new maps are bad while my favorites have been the H2 remakes ie: Hemorrhage, Reflection, Asylum, and Pinnacle. I've had some good games on Countdown and I'd enjoy it more without AA's but its nothing special by any means.

Maps are garbage, Rockets are Nukes, Nades are...lol, well you can throw a nade 50 miles and they are mini nukes. Loadouts are retarded, the DMR is probably the most inconsistant starting weapon MLG will ever have had, honestly.

Graphically, this game is ridiculous. However the overall gameplay (even with the loadouts) is slow, boring, and inconsistent. The maps, in all honesty, are complete trash. The only maps I like to play on are Ivory Tower, Ascension, and Sanctuary. Nades are overpowered, rockets are overpowered, and the fact that 3-4 shots & a beatdown doesn't kill somebody REALLY makes me mad.
The ranking system, however, I have mixed feelings about. I like it in a way because it is simple, and the whole "OmGz a leVuL FiFtYyyy" stuff is gone but it just doesn't feel like a Halo game. In all honesty I preferred the 1-50 ranking system with its many flaws than this crappy rating stuff.
But, to be positive, sniping has gotten a little easier and the DMR isn't so bad. A lot of people still don't understand how to use the DMR which is kinda funny, but they'll get the hang of it soon. I'm looking forward to the MLG v1 settings so I can stop playing these horrible playlists though. =P
So yeah, that's my thoughts on Reach.

Countdown, Boardwalk, Asylum, and Zealot > Anything from Halo 3 (Except Narrows)
Countdown is my favorite map out of H2, H3, and HR. I'll need to play on it more to find out if I like it more than Boarding Action or Damnation from HCE.

DMR is horrible. Shooting fast is horrible, shooting too slow is accurate, but..too slow. Shooting anywhere inbetween is stupidly inconsistent. The Cage and Boardwalk are complete trash. Countdown, Asylum, Powerhouse, and Sword Base are okay. Reflection is...not the same feeling as Halo 2. Zealot would be great without the top....lol top strat. Guaranteed win. Rockets are overpowered beyond belief, seems like everyone's grenades work except for mine. Really hate this game overall so far. I don't think there's anything MLG could do with it to make it bearable for me.
Oh yeah, and lol at 3-4 DMR shots and a melee not killing people.
Oh, and everyone in this game is amazing with sniper except for me.

The aiming system feels really good though I'm still getting frustrated at the people who spam their DMR while I take my sweet time making sure I don't waste 1-8 bullets. I have a lot of mixed feelings in the maps. I loved Ivory Tower but the remake just doesn't feel right to me and I think its because of the loadouts though I'm not sure. The Sanctuary remake is by far my favorite so far and I vote for it anytime I can. Zealot is also a favoriter, although I wish they took out the outer space part as it rarely gets used from what I've seen. The one main thing I have to complain about is the spawns on most all the maps and the Grenades. Those grenades are ridiculous, they might as well spawn everyone with a rocket for a third weapon.

I think this is the laziest game put out by Bungie to date. Each Halo has had about 12-15 maps at launch and only 8 for Reach. Not a fan of the single shot DMR, the BR is much more fun to watch imo. Theater only allows 1 person to view so teams can't go over a game which is a setback (and I don't understand why they did that). Game seems a bit slow, double kills, trips, etc... hard to see many amazing game changing plays happening. The Sprint, hologram, etc... take away from what we have come to love about the core of Halo. Hopefully MLG can somehow overhaul it to speed it up, encourage great action, and make it fun to be a fan of competitive gaming...Crossing my fingers! I played about 10 games and got bored kind of quickly. So until adjustments are made, I'm still playing Halo 3 ATM

Just started playing online after lanning with the game for a day. I gotta say that I'm pretty meh about playing online with the game, but when i was lanning I was pooping buckets of fun constantly. I think the main problem for me is I've always loved objective gametypes more than slayers, so until the mlg playlist comes out we're stuck just playing neutral bomb on blood gulch over and over again -______-.
The maps in the game are pretty terrible. The Sanctuary remake is pretty sweet, Ivory Tower just doesn't have the same feel with the slower pace of this game, and Countdown is really the only original map on disc that I truly like. As for weapons, playing on lan with the DMR made me fall in love with it instantly. Sure as Rob said it's slower paced and may not be as fun to watch because of that, but just the fact that it's so damn effective on lan makes me giggle like a school girl. Once I jumped online with the gun I found that it was more inconsistent, which is to be expected, but still loads better than the H3 Br was online and the H2 one. Grenades are ridiculous they blow up so damn fast and are kinda inconsistent from my experience. Sometimes they just tap the enemy with a sprinkle of damage and other times they rip him a new facehole. Sniping is pretty damn easy even for a guy like me who is usually pretty terribad with it. AAs are alright I don't really hate them, other than armor lock ofc, but the others I can deal with and I trust Mlg to use them justly.
I'm not as pessimistic about this game as much as some other people, and I am having fun with it which is something that I haven't had with a halo game since H3 first released and it was shiny and new. Hopefully Mlg will inject some longevity into this game to make it last longer than H3 did in fun factor for me.

I like the game but the map selection is horrible. Pinnacle and Asylum are the only ones I like. The others are nade-fests. Hopefully MLG will fix (takes deep breath) the low jumping, the slow running speed, the flag cooldown, the awful spawns, remove AA's and they will hopefully have some awesome forged maps. I think the bloom is something we will get used to and it encourages teamshot IMO. I think MLG Reach will be exciting even though right now it looks grim.
I decided to play solo campaign legendary .. on this level. I just wanted to see how it would be.
NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE BEEN SO FRUSTRATED WITH A GAME:

@Shy Legendary is extremely hard but it is probably my favorite mode to play. I can't wait to try a 4 player legendary co-op run. With the AI scaling its gonna be crazy!

I just find that these maps are camptacular nadefests that while the gunplay is supposed to widen the skill gap most the maps here actually prohibit this from happening. I would rather play Pit, Narrows, or Onslaught over nearly any of these maps. (excluding the remakes)
Sadly enough I actually am already bored with playing MM because of the maps most people select.

I think it will hopefully change once we all become used to the new maps and figure out all the jumps and tricks to them. Right now alot of people don't know what to do other then spam those ridiculously overpowered grenades. They still did all through H3, the only difference for me personally was once knowing the maps I could utilize all the tricks and jumps to get out of that and take the advantage. Just my opinion though (and my hopes) because I really don't want these maps to be a nade fest as most are now.

No offense but you honestly like Reach originals over maps like: The Pit, Guardian, Onslaught (Don't care if its forged), Heretic, and Construct??? In terms of gameplay, or just having fun and trying to get funny kills on people? Because I can't see one single Reach original map being made into an MLG map.

That list basically sums up my opinion too, even though I don't like Isolation a lot it usually held my record for highest K/D average haha.
It just depresses me that Bungie, knowing the large amount of its fans are MLG enthusiasts, didn't take the time to develop any new original maps to launch that cater to strategic competitive game play for multiple game types. I understand they developed forge world so we the gamers can build these canvases for competitions but you can't replicate computer generated maps with Forge...imagine trying to make something as accurate as say, Narrows with Forge.

The Pit: You're forced to bottle-neck gameplay where it's all about shooting your opponent until they run away and you can't see them anymore. The halls constrain you to not be able to do anything. The giant wall down the middle of the map pretty much screws that map over.
Guardian: It plays well with Ball, but the spawns are still... awful. Besides charging top-mid, the general flow of the map is basically counter clockwise.
Construct: Lol. 5 routes to the top... 3 of them being very loud lifts, and the one of the other two being very skinny legs that are in the wide-open going up into sword.
Onslaught: A 4 year old can spawn-kill on this map, and it's a stale map.
Heretic: No complaints, but I find a map like Countdown to be better than it.
Narrows: Even with my LOVEEEE for this map, it still has issues. It has 3 routes (one of them being a noisy cannon). And the map is simply... too narrow. Not enough routes.
Basically, I'll word this the way RehnX did from the Halo Forge Forum at mlgpro.com.... "Who wants to play on a wall, a bridge, a broken clock, a tower, or Midship's -bleep- child?"
Wall = The Pit
Bridge = Narrows
Broken Clock = Guardian
Tower = Construct
Midship's -bleep- child = Onslaught

Small handicaps to an overall great map and possibly the most favored map of Halo 3. I don't know if I've ever played that game and it get more than 2 vetos in ANY Matchmaking playlist. No one goes into a Pit game saying "OMG I hate this map".
Guardian: It plays well with Ball, but the spawns are still... awful. Besides charging top-mid, the general flow of the map is basically counter clockwise.
I'll agree with you about the spawns, but you can't say this is a bad map as it has housed some amazing games for MLG and tests a teams ability to break setups.
Construct: Lol. 5 routes to the top... 3 of them being very loud lifts, and the one of the other two being very skinny legs that are in the wide-open going up into sword.
Once again I won't disagree about these statements but it is still a very nice symmetrical map that I won't deny, has pissed me off more than any other MLG map. Still I'd take it over ANY new Reach Map...especially for competitive games.
Onslaught: A 4 year old can spawn-kill on this map, and it's a stale map.
Did you get spawn camped by a 4 year old? I don't get this statement as it was IMO one of the best user created maps I've ever played in terms of flow (given the available objects) and symmetry for a fast paced flag game.
Heretic: No complaints, but I find a map like Countdown to be better than it.
What is it about Countdown you so passionately enjoy? Is it the room with all the different lift options? Is it the countless corners people sprint around attempting to flank like a COD game? What gametype would you best fit this map with if it were to be MLG???
Narrows: Even with my LOVEEEE for this map, it still has issues. It has 3 routes (one of them being a noisy cannon). And the map is simply... too narrow. Not enough routes.
Not enough routes for what? Continuous lone wolf style flanking with no regard to team plays? That seems like something online randoms do and then after the game they wonder why their team lost and they were the only ones with lots of kills. The man cannon is noisy and people with strategy tend to use that to an advantage given certain circumstances/plays too. The less paths means more teamwork is needed to get to your objective.
Reach Original Maps:
Zealot = Outer space? 'Nuff said.
Countdown = Corridor, Corner, Hole in floor, Corner, 3 lifts to choose from, Corner.
Sword base = Camp top and watch 3 possible paths. Bridges path/Ramp, Air lift, and Stairs...and you think this is better than paths in H3 maps?
Powerhouse = I've only played 1 to 2 times since the beta, but flag was horrible on it!
Boardwalk = I'm still trying to figure out what this was designed for.
Please people get to forging because MLG really is counting on you for any decent multi game type competitive maps! I've played a lot of peoples new maps just looking around with the new AMAZING ability to browse user created maps/variants directly in custom game lobby. I love the DMR, pistol, sniper, and forge options with Reach!

I would rather play a game with skill-orientated weapons over one with "good" maps. Since a lot of the maps come from the campaign (and we all knew this was going to happen months ago) did you really expect a lot of good symmetrical competitive-style maps?
Forge has come leaps and bounds over H3 forge. It's still not perfect, but it is far superior. The options you have for creating maps in forge world is where this game will shine. In addition to that, tweaking the current maps will also certainly help. Blocking the lifts into space on zealot would be a huge improvement, just for starters. Even Pit wasn't perfect on release, adding the box jump really changed the flow of the whole map, and increasing the run speed to 110% gave the ability to make some jumps easier, and other impossible jumps possible, again, changing the whole flow of the map.
It'll get better, I assure you. Once the forge community starts really churning out maps and playing with a weapon that's not noob-friendly on a game where shots actually register? Yes, please.

every thing is awesome except the maps and some times that last shot with teh dmr is just impossible, but i think if mlg uses forge to create basically all new maps that are halo 3 style maps it will be sick. cause i was running costums on pit, warlock, amplified, and gaurdian and it plays really well. i hope there is no armor locks for mlg and if there is there should only be sprint

Agreed. I guess I just was really hoping for some better maps off the drop, but oh well. And I agree that once forges start popping up and MLG changes the play style that this could be a very good game. I have high hopes and I am loving that when I shoot someone they actually get hurt. I agree with you 100% about this, but the topic of this thread is what you think of Reach so far, and this is my biggest thoughts so far since no one has had the time to create any terrific maps for MM/Custom games in forge. By comparison I still think the H3 original maps (not including DLC) were better than Reach's
Also I can't wait for someone to recreate the 0 second respawn settings for Octagon. That was my favorite quick warm up map!
