I need help hooking up my astros a40s with a mixamp to the new MLG asus monitor. I couldn't find any vids on youtube that could help me :(. I am using a HDMi cord if that helps any. Anyone who can help or lead me into the right direction to solving this problem, I'd greatly appreciate it :D.

If you want to use an HDMI connection I would recommend buying this http://www.amazon.com/Optical-Audio-Adapter-Xbox-360-Cable/dp/B0042UQLM0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1303515106&sr=8-3 or something which is the same. This device plugs in below your hdmi slot on your xbox =)
I hope this helps man.

If you have a Xbox 360S. Buy an Optical audio cord. http://goo.gl/g6Zee
Plug one end into your xbox the other end goes in the amp.
If you have the classic Xbox 360, then you need the adapter from the quote and an Optical cord.
exactly what Joe said, or just buy a VGA Cable.
better IMO

this i know. but you can get a dongle. still doesn't really explain why vga would be a better choice
You don't need a dongle...on the slims you can just plug in fiber optic and get better sound right away...on the old boxes you can either buy that stupid adapter or you can take apart your old component cables (Microsoft made the shell to your component cable just large enough so that you couldn't use HDMI and TOSlink without buying THEIR adapter...or so they thought) and then once you have that casing removed you can plug in your component *for the TOSlink connection...and your HDMI
Check this out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FptCB_3DOz4)
As for the VGA thing SockswithSandals...a LOT of people, including Taco apparently, think that VGA is better...and that opinion is usually from thinking that it's faster...which on the new MLG monitors is INCORRECT...I'll try to explain this very simply
VGA connection bypasses the scaling process in HDTVs and the "TV-tuner chip" in some monitors like the NX2232 that MLG used to use for Halo3...it was made extra important with H3 due to the fact that Halo3 ran in 640p not 720 or 1080 and that the old MLG monitor had that 'TV chip'...
So you're left with an analog signal (VGA) vs. a digital signal (HDMI) and on the Asus they have the same amount of input lag...better picture being the added bonus with HDMI
HDMI>VGA

@Vox
my knowledge on the subject is slim, but I knew about input lag so I used VGA cables from way back in the day. Now that I have the new monitor, VGA and HDMI are for sure the same? Because then that raises the question if a blackmagic capture creates lag. If not, I would love to use HDMI over VGA with the capture card. If anyone knows the answer or can enlighten me, please do! Thank you much.
Have no idea on the cap. card issues...will research

@ vox- thanks that actually made sense
Also curious about the black magic. Post what you guys find :)
Played through Portal 2 instead of researching...it was enjoyable...next is co-op+pizza+beer=win
I will check into it sometime though...
