View Full Version : "Forum Awards" - Offical Thread

If you have not heard of The Forum Awards, it was an idea by wookiemanx. He gave me permission to run with it because he was too busy to be able to coordinate it. Here's how it works. There will be several categories in which someone can win. Members will vote for the person they feel is most deserving for that award. Obviously, whoever ends up with the most votes will be the winner for that category.
Here are the categories:
MVP(Most Valuable Poster)
Best Attitude in a forum member
Most Knowledgeable member
Thread of the year
Mod of the year
Funniest forum member
Most helpful member
Votes will be sent in a PM to "Antidote" and "D Moralize". Fill out who you feel should win every for every category. For a thread vote, give the name of the thread and the author. If you vote for yourself in any category, it will not count.
Here is a sample PM to both Antidote and D Moralize:
MVP(Most Valuable Poster) - "TLN Member"
Best Attitude in a forum member - "TLN Member"
Most Knowledgeable member - "TLN Member"
Thread of the year - "Thread Title", "TLN Member" and please provide a link to the thread.
Mod of the year - "TLN Member"
Funniest forum member - "TLN Member"
Most helpful member - "TLN Member"
Voting has been extended until June 1st, don't miss your chance to vote!!!

We're figuring that out, we are trying to avoid voting in this thread because of the obvious flame war it will start, most likely the OP will be updated with someone to PM your votes to, ideally we would have two people you PM them to so we could double check numbers off each other but im not sure people wouldn't change their votes when PM'ing the other person just to troll us.

The point is to keep it anonymous. Having a poll would defeat the purpose. You would have to have it set up where people openly give their votes out. Either that or set up a poll where every single member is listed under every single category.

I highly doubt anyone is going to take their time to make a poll for every person and every forum post etc. it would honestly take a lot of time, but i'm still willing to make a poll if we could make a list of people/ things to vote on

That's what is fair. That's why we should have some system in which the people voting can simple pick for themselves, instead of selecting out of a few pre selected people.

The problem with that is there are so many people and other things to vote on there MIGHT* be a very weird spread of results, however, we could do something to the effect of having everyone send their vote to a mod than taking the top 5-10 of each category and then making a public poll, i think that'd work how about you guys?

The problem is that I don't really trust a small portion of our wonderful community to not turn this thread into crap unless the voting is anonymous, no comments of how the **** does ____ have more votes than ____ and such. And I think its better to just tell people the winners, that way everyone can believe they were second and no feelings are hurt. I would also like to see this not just be friends voting for friends and things of that nature. Keeping it 100% secret is the best way to allow people to vote honestly

I'm agreeing with this. Something that popped into my head is how will we get everyone get in their vote though. Right now the private messaging has a limit I do believe. Though this might not include admins and such. So if you don't have a limit then we could have one of you take and tally votes.

Agreed, if there's someone who doesn't have a limit on their PMs, then they should get the votes sent to them.

wait till the voting starts but then there will be a form you copy and paste, fill out with your votes and PM to both of us. I would still like to see a few more categories personally or expand them a little, Instead of just MVP I say we have best attitude, most knowledgeable, best contributor, and best overall added to the most helpful and funniest. Same thing with threads we could have most informative thread, funniest thread, best overall thread.

Also just throwing this out there I'm not a mod and so like anyone else I have a very small limit of messages. If the inbox is full then just write on my wall or something and I'll PM you back to let you know when it is clear for you to send your vote.
Or I would accept votes through my twitter for me to keep track of if the PM's just keep pouring in.

Ah and I feel there should be a limit of WHO can vote - ie: Must have more than XX amount of posts. This will keep lurkers and fake accounts from being able to cast votes.

I didn't want people to feel left out /: It is supposed to be the whole community's vote, and some people are on here just as much as us, they just post a lot lot less. And honestly, if someone did make a fake account and vote, not only would it be easy to detect, but just plain embarrassing for them that they would try to rig a friendly competition.
