This will be a kind-of-lengthy read, but I'd really love for someone to read this and help me out with my router issues. Thanks.

Well, quite a few of you know about my very bad connection. I'll give a quick summary: 217 ping, .20 download, .14 upload. Yesterday I had finally had enough with it, so I went to Best Buy and bought a new router (the one I was using is VERY old...ancient). With this previous router it would take a good 90 seconds to simply load Google. At least my XBL was fine though when I had my ethernet in it.

Anyways, I buy this new router called a Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Router. The Geek Squad member told me it was ideal for all the live streaming I watch and gaming I do, so I believed him. Of course, he also showed all of its specs on the back of the box. I bought the best version of the Netgear Router. It has a check under all of the features: Wireless printing, simultaneous downloads, voice, and music, online gaming, larger homes or multiple floors, HD streaming, and avoids interference.

My dad installed it for me (<3). All was well and good because I noticed a HUGE improvement in internet speed; especially on wireless. Also, I could now finally hook my xbox and laptop into the router at the same time without one of them being forced to disconnect (which is what my old router did). I am SO happy with my internet speed now.

HOWEVER, now when I try to play XBL, people are glitching. I'm in full green bar, but people are still glitching/teleporting... with an ethernet in. I then tried unplugging all other ethernets that were hooked to the router and turned off the wireless on my laptop to make sure my xbox was the only thing using it... and people were still glitching. How does my internet get 100x faster, but my XBL get worse?

Here's an editor's review:

I don't understand what he means by 'lack of Gigabit Ethernet'.

Also, in case this matters, my ISP is Clear.

Currently doing homework so I'll be back to help with a longer post in a bit. I worked for geeksquad and from a computer nerd stand point and a working with them stand point. Never buy anything they tell you to buy. I personally wouldn't buy a netgear anything.

Never play xbl over wireless EVER Using cord (controller, ethernet) drastically reduces latency

I use ethernet. That's why I'm dumb-founded.

Your router may have not been the problem, but your isp, internet service provider. Who do you have?

Means it doesn't support "high-end" Ethernet cables.

I would also get in touch with your ISP. Most should even be able to run test to see if something is not running properly on your modem. It could just be bad luck in the game as well.

I think mine is a regular ethernet cord. Even though I don't know what a 'high-end' ethernet cord is. I ran close to 10 games. Every single one of them had the same problem. No router should make my XBL glitch when I have an ethernet in it. Not even my ancient router did that. I'm green bar every game, but I'm glitching.

It may be Clear.

Is your NAT open? you should turn off all firewalls and make sure UPnP is enabled in the router settings. also, if you see anything in the settings that says QOS (quality of service) disable it. that made me glitch like crazy with my router. if that stuff doesn't work, then get a linksys or dlink router.

if nothing works, you might want to switch ISPs. you will have a really solid connection with ATT or comcast.

Edit: i found this: http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=58586
it seems like that router is not very reliable. you might want to swap it for a linksys.
also with internet as slow as yours, you definitely don't need a simultaneous dual band router, you're just wasting money lol.

The internet sped up a lot when I got this new router. The internet's not bad anymore. XBL is just bad.

I'll try those things though.

Dont worry much about "gigabit ethernet ports" its mainly to download large files at a faster rate.
"Xbox doesnt have gigabit ports so don't worry about it.
Their is no such thing as "HIGH END ETHERNET CABLES"

Make sure the uPnP on the router is enabled, as this will provide a better online experience with online games.
Also double check with your ISP to make sure you are getting the speed required, or possibly upgrade to a faster one. [200 ping is not good, so try to upgrade] this might be the reason.
Restarting your router might solve the problem as well.

If you keep on experiencing problems, return the router and get the same one or a different one.
A solid choice would also be the Linksys e4000, but it is pricy.

I have the same exact router, and the first one was blazing fast on wireless devices "itouch, laptop etc"
but on Reach it was glitching so i returned it and got a new one, and no more problems.

Well, my uPnP was on, so that wasn't it. I then followed this youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7j7jPeXN2bw... and then it still didn't work.

Last option is to try resetting my router I guess. Depressing.

You definitely should swap the router for a linksys.

Man I feel ya on these problems. I have 2 XBox's connected, and one always gets a better connection, even if I switch the cables. It seemingly worked itself out for a while, but now I'm going through it again. SMH.

Well, I bought a new one. :D It's much better!

Linksys E4200 Maximum Performance Wireless-N Router
Simultaneous Dual-Band (2.4 and 5 GHz)
Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000) Ports
Maximum Wireless Speed (300 + 450 Mbps)

I have no clue what any of it means, but it sounds good.
