View Full Version : Poll - Should i stop posting so many threads?

Miiiklo

So i made this one to decide once and for all if i need to slow down. Ive been getting negative feedback in the community because i have been starting threads, that actually help the community as well as some about finding teammates/scrims/octagons. Ill list my threads below and well have a poll. Ill tally them up before i go to sleep tonight and that will be the deciding factor. Please look at my links before you vote, im not saying read the whole thread but just get a sense what its about.

http://thelannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?3547-A-little-bit-about-me <-- Intro
http://thelannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?3545-Materials-Required-for-a-decent-JTV-Stream <---Asking about what i need to stream
http://thelannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?3544-Want-to-get-better-at-Reach <--- Free lessons for TLN members
http://thelannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?3543-Tips-on-staying-Motivated-during-gaming-sessions <--- How to stay motivated in and out of game
http://thelannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?3546-Amateur-Halo-Reach-Gameplay-Miklo <--- looking for feedback on my gameplay
http://thelannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?3527-How-Known-are-you <--- Fun thread that most people seem to enjoy
http://thelannetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?3504-How-to-break-Set-Ups-in-MLG-against-*good*-teams

The rest (about 6/16) are about me asking for teammates, scrims, octagon map/gametype and people to play it with. As well as one in the graphics discussion and one about Free SD/HD Capturing which has been responded too.

Making this thread should answer that for you.

You just post a lot in a short period of time, maybe just slow it down.

Another thread, asking if you should stop posting so many threads? That should give you your answer right there.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful in any way at all, but I had really hoped when you PM'd me the other day that you legitimately wanted my advice and would use it.
Honestly, it's gotten to the point where you're starting a thread, getting 5 replies, then starting another thread right after. I know you're trying to help the community, but it's beginning to get a little bit ridiculous (for lack of a better word).
And I know you're trying to get more involved with this community, there's no problem with that, but posting thread after thread is not the way to go about doing that.

This is just my opinion though!! Take it or leave it, either is okay with me.
No hate or disrespect intended, so please don't take this a negative way :)

When more than 25% of your posts are new threads then it is a little out of control. Plus another 25% of your posts are probably in your own threads as well. It's great to be involved in the community, "but it's beginning to get a little bit ridiculous (for lack of a better word)."

You should have seen me when I first joined. I was one of the reasons the +1 thread was made. :)

I say everybody get the hell over it. If you wanna post a billion threads, go ahead. The only thing I ask is that you do a search first and try to find a thread that's already been made that you can bump instead of making a new thread. If there is no thread that fits your needs, and you feel like the new thread has some use to it, go right ahead.

Read the thread title again Forefront, he's asking for our opinions, we're just giving it :)
Just sayin', no hate!

I was never hating on him I don't mind if he makes a lot of threads I don't post/read here often.

blah blah blah, majority of the answers are "No" so stop posting threads a lot.
Were not saying you can totally stop, but just don't spam new threads every minute or so (exaggeration, but you get the point).

~Thank you! :)

this is my opinion. I actually dont mind the topics that you have created, but like many others, i think the timing could be better. like instead of having 5 in one day, i would spread that out and only do 1 a day or maybe 2 at the most. I also think that by doing this you will get more real responses to your topics.

again, just my opinion

I think you just need to make new threads when needed. Take a look around the FORUMS section. There are a lot of threads and sections where you can post some of these. I made the same mistakes not looking when I first started posting. You'lll get used to just checking first.

Edit: And don't worry, you're post count will get up there lol

Go for it, I don't understand why people here get annoyed whenever we get a new active member, I can remember this happening at least twice before and both times it blew over eventually and once that person went from new to established they became a respected member.

@D Moralize...lol yep I agree. It's getting his name out there haha. You don't need to slow down, just check before posting it in case there is a place for it already.

Yeah so long as it's relevant and worthwhile then I'd say go for it. It's when it's completely useless that we don't like when they are spammed.

Ok I have a couple things to say, I have been on other forums, not gaming but different types but that doesn't matter, there is so much to halo and gamining in general that can help. Some threads such as "help breaking setups" is a good idea, some fun threads as "how known you are" are a great idea. As long as the topic of the thread isn't useless and stupid, it doesn't matter how many threads you make. Obviously dont make like 50 a day, but the point of it is to keep the forums ACTIVE. I may not be one to talk as I dont really post here, honestly I have my reasons. However, the members of the forums cant be "afraid" to post threads and ideas if "there are too many". If you make a good idea for a thread, as I saw in the "help breaking setups" it would have been better to get a discussion going and prolong the thread, but sometimes unfortunatly, like in that thread, a couple members posted some good stuff and no one wanted to say anymore. To sum it up basically, dont be afraid to post a thread if you think it will generate some discussion or even help other players. I honestly dont get the "stop posting threads" the ones he listed all have some use to them, small such as his intro, but use. It keeps it active....

I agree, for the most parts your threads are good. However, I think, i described it to you before, your smothering the forums. I get that you want to be an active member, and i respect that. But I dont think you understand what you are really doing thats irritating people.

For the record i will repeat. I LIKE THE MAJORITY OF YOUR THREADS! the exception being the mentor one. I get that your trying to do a nice thing, but i think its kind of cocky and egotistical for (no offense, Im one too) a random to be giving 'lessons'

I don't know many people even know me and I don't know how respected my opinion is.. but I think that you should think for 5 mins before you make a thread, search the forums if it doesn't exist and you think it would be worth making the thread. Make it. I honestly like reading most of your threads, but if I were you, I would definitly try to spread them out so you can get more replies. Just my 2 cents :)

you post a thread because you have a certain topic, you dont want to go off topic so you make a new thread. you arent forcing anyone to click on your new threads, so keep doing it man. you are getting your name out there, and people are starting to know your name, even though they probably get annoyed, but who cares. you are being respectful in your threads and people like your ideas and even though people think this thread is ironic, they are still participating.

I don't think you should stop posting threads. But its threads like these where people get upset. If someone confronted you and said to stop making threads, try to keep it in a PM. I'm glad you are active, in fact, I also got tons of posts in my first few days of being apart of TLN. But then I realized that many of my posts were not always necessary, much like this thread.

Keep posting, but think whether what you're about to say is worth posting first!!

I think you should stop. you want to be know right? dont be know for the kid that post to many threads

its not that im trying to be known, if i wanted it THAT bad i would just buy gametime with a pro while they were streaming or something of that nature. Im simply trying to be active and honestly the only reason people are telling me to stop is because im new, i GUARANTEE if a mod or a member member with 500+ posts was doing what im doing no1 would care. Thank you forefront! its sad that i should even have to make this thread but if all im doing is pissing off the community im trying to help then by all means, i can go somewhere else where it will be welcomed.

And heat, i think its funny that a random is calling someone else a random. Who are you??? Excuse me if i recognize the fact that i, and probably you too, are better than most of the halo players out there, and with that knowledge i think its just the right thing to do to try and pass on the knowledge of the game i have to other players. Its not like im telling them to pay for it right? I should just make a new account every time i want to post something so you guys will get off my nuts for christ sake.

I think its fine.. imo your not making useless threads they seem to be threads with a good subject/point to them.. once they start becoming useless then it gets annoying but for now i have no problem with the amount of threads ur making.. should maybe slow down a bit but either way.

Yeah I agree. If you post 1,000,000 threads in 5 days, it's fine. If you post a million threads like this in 5 days, it is a problem. The best way to get involved with this community is slowly and over a long period of time. The less radical your entrance into the community, the more you will be accepted. That is how I feel anyway. It's like when you put a fish into a new tank, you have to let it sit in a bag for a while to get adjusted to the temperature, if you dump it in, it will die. That is just a pattern I have seen.

A poll would have been clever to count the votes, but tallying is ok.
LOL Xavi thats how you got so high huh?

But, I honestly don't mind Miiiklo making these new threads; he makes sure that it isn't made before, he puts them in the right category i.e. Halo Reach or Off-topic, and people are responding so they are sparking conversation. I suggest that instead of just holding back, why don't you [Miiiklo] get more involved in the +1 Thread.
EDIT: and maybe instead of replying after every comment, just wait for about 3 or 4 or 5 comments to build up and then chain them together in your reply using MultiQuote :)

he is not a random he is a well established member of this comunity. The only reason people are having a problem with you is that you joined under 10 days ago and you all ready have 66 posts. Im not saying leave or any thing like that. I actuly enjoy most of your posts. but there comes a point when it is to much posting. I barley have over 100 posts and ive been here longer than you have and you are almost passing me. just slow down a little and the comunity will back off.

Not all of us "other kids" are against you and I resent that remark. Just you will come to find out that if people don't have a problem with you then they will find no reason to post. Count how many member have bashed you on this thread. Then subtract them from the amount of members on this site. It's not so many now is it?

Oh boohoo, so you're mad that he's actually being an active and involved member of the community right off the get-go? That's what this place should foster. I'm tired of seeing people come in threads and bash newer members just because they're trying to be active in the community. It's not like he's posting 15 different copies of the same thread. He's creating content to help other members. I'm glad that we have another member like you Miiiklo, keep up the contributions to the site!

And Hea7, back off the new members. Can't recall the last constructive comment you made to someone.
