So I was wondering (and I will fill mine out later) what you guys would sacrifice to go pro in Reach? Honestly I would probably be scared to admit it :p

I'm not sure I would permanently sacrifice anything, you definitely pose a difficult question. Given that I haven't been given a choice up til this point between being pro and something else I'm not sure what I would do. BTW gt is Morgacht, hit me up for customs.

As much as it brings a tear to my eye. I would give up tacos.

Nothing. I play to satisfy my competitive drive, that's about it. Pros (on average) don't make enough for it to be worthwhile in the long run.

They make enough for their age, and it's not like they're not doing other things such as college or high school. It doesn't have to be the 'long run'.

Putting off school and jobs to be able to devote enough time to honing their Halo skills is not beneficial, in short or long term. I'm not suggesting every pro or player does this, but it's a fact that too many people now are barely getting through highschool and putting off(or abandoning entirely) college because they're under the illusion ANYONE can go pro and win tournaments. You make as much at a minimum wage job in two weeks as you do for 8th place from a tournament every 3 months.

That is like saying people take too much time from school to focus on football, baseball, track or some other sport. Yes some people could perhaps focus on it too much. If you love doing it though then there is always a way to balance everything to fit what you love doing in your life. Yes, I agree that some people do believe that they can go pro very easily and think that it is their calling and answer to everything. People also feel that way about sports too. Doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy playing them and being the best you can be at them. I highly doubt that most pros are ONLY in it for the money.

Organized sports are...organized. You have a few hours of scheduled practice after school during the school week, and the game at the end of the week. Most kids(let alone pros when they're really grinding out practice time) play a minimum of 3-5 hours everyday...some kids are playing from the time they get home from school until they go to bed 4 hours before school the next day. It's honestly probably easier to balance college and gaming than it is when you're in highschool, but too many kids are just putting college on the shelf instead. That's just time spent, without regarding the benefits from playing sports...like exercise, scholarships, and potential future well paying jobs.

Not saying playing Halo is a bad thing, I love gaming and it's a great way to channel my competitive drive in my free time. Just reiterating that the excessive time so many people are putting into trying to become pro is foolish, especially when it's to the point that it affects you academically or deters you from going to college.

I don't think I'll be trying to go pro anytime soon. I'm a competitive gamer and I love a good challenge, but I can't see myself putting the time or effort into something that I may never accomplish. In my current situation, College seems a bit more secure. I don't want an insecure future.

Even if I ever did go pro, there's always that chance that you might not place well, where in retrospect if you had spent all of those months in school, you're that much closer to your career. All of this doesn't change the fact that I'm a fan of MLG and I'll never stop gaming or watching the broadcasts.

There's pro's and con's to trying to go pro, but in my opinion it's too risky. It's a gamble. I'm not one to gamble, especially with my life at stake. I think I'll stick to College instead.

I wouldnt want to be a pro gamer for the money. I would want pro status for all the traveling, experience, potential friendships around the country/world, recognition, etc.

I would give up time, maybe friends who are not super close or have the same mindset or understanding about competitive gaming, and probably higher end clothing. You know, just have life's essentials (plus the equipment needed for competitive gaming) to stay humble and survive while trying to achieve the goal.

Do some take it overboard? Yes, they most unfortunately do. However, I would like to say just two things.

1. Anyone can go pro. There are too many people that forget this by high school age. It doesn't matter if your fifty with one arm and are deaf. If you want it, believe without a doubt that you can do it, and work your butt off to get it then you can. It is not an illusion. Just trying to impart some wisdom. You will tell your kids this one day, and absolutely believe it.
2. You make as much getting 8th place every three months as you do at a minimum wage job, but how much fun did you have 5 to 7 nights a week, 8 hrs a day at that job? You had a way better time 5 to 7 nights a week, 8 hrs a day at halo. Right?

I believe that balance is the key to life. If all you do is Halo, you will lose life. However, with balance, I believe you can do anything you put your mind to and I hope that you all believe that too. Especially you younger guys and gals.

Anyway, if I wanted to go pro, I would be willing to sacrifice whatever it takes. When you do something, never do it half way. Attack it with everything you can, and be prepared to sacrifice. If you can't, you didn't want it that bad in the first place.
