The New Xbox Update

I am downloading it now on my secondary Xbox. I will answer questions if anyone has any and I can take screenshots and maybe do video if I need to with my cap card.

I got this update as well. There is nothing really special about it. Then again, I'm in Canada and do not get the ESPN app. Netflix was supposed to be supported for Canada through this preview but the Netflix site has yet to setup their xbox page to finish the stream sign up. The avatar marketplace is locked and anything you have bought or earned through awards are not availible for your avatar. You cannot hear ANYONE in party chat or private chat unless you are talking with someone who has the new update as well. The only thing decent about this update so far is that the layout is more organized and it seems to run at a smoother rate.

what is the update?

It is a dashboard redesign coming in November. It has sharper faster menus, ESPN3 streaming, better netflix interface, remodeled Zune marketplace, and more.

I hear it has better voice/sound quality in party chat and probably in-game aswell. I will test this out soon with a buddy who was in the Kinect beta.

It isn't bad. It's a little too bright for me but other than that pretty solid. Also, anyone try out typing yet? It's AMAZING.

The text on the dash has been resized giving it that sharper look. Talking about sharper look, you can see that the menus are edged out now making it look cleaner. The Avatars have also received a makeover. They are a bit taller and slimmer than before. I did not alter my avatar in any way just to have you know.

When you click your avatar on the dashboard you can now see your gamer card and years of gold active a bit better. Account management is easier to get to and you can easily see how many Microsoft Points you have left, The email associated with your gamertag, and conveniently buy Microsoft Points right on the dash.

Here is what you can expect your guide to look like. It pops up faster, you can cycle through it faster, it looks different but all the menus are the same. what else is there to say? Its still the same guide we love.

Eh I don't know, the espn3 sounds pretty tight but otherwise it doesn't seem all that interesting.

It is pretty bright. I wasn't liking it at first but I am slowly getting used to it. Is the typing better because they made the "qwerty" keyboard default? If they did I wouldn't know because I used to use "qwerty" on the old dash by configuring it in system settings. Typing feels about right to me.

I dont watch alot of sports but since I am on XBL alot I figured I would start watching some because of ESPN3. Here is some info:

"To view on-demand and live sporting events, you must use an ESPN3-affiliated ISP (Internet Service Provider)"

I have brighthouse so when I go to the ESPN app I am only allowed to see video content from ESPN.com. If any of you are wondering if your ISP is affiliated with ESPN go to ESPN3.com to find out. A buddy told me that brighthouse signed a contract and we will be getting ESPN3 this year or next year.

when you get into the app you see 5 big screens with the latest highlights and sports talk. You can hover over each screen and the video starts playing automatically within seconds. If you switch screens the video will pause and when you come back to it, it will pick up from where you left off. you can fullscreen the videos and it looks great on an HDTV. They also have an archive of highlights and sports talk from many of the programs on ESPN all available for free to Xbox Live gold subscribers.

One cool thing I found, While in a video you can press "Y" and it would bring up sports schedules and scores for MLB, NHL, and NCAA.

Yeah, It said it would do that when you signed up for it. You can party chat with others who have the new dashboard. A friend got the new dash a month or two before me. what we would do is lobby warrior in halo 3 and reach with other friends. You cant reverse the update, the only thing you can do is wait until November.

I cant watch ESPN live yet but I will be able to later this month according to my ISP's website. :)

I agree, mine feels much smoother! I also love espn3, there are a ton of games on it if you like sports

I absolutely love ESPN3 feature and how organized things are.
That is all though I don't like the color I liked it better when it was darker and Everything but Netflix ESPN and Games are useless to me.
