View Full Version : Do 1v1's matter in Halo: Reach?

Alright guys, we all know 1v1s are all about personal skill (most of the time). But do 1v1s matter in Halo: Reach?

My Opinion: They don't matter at all. Who ever has host can spam 5-Shot for a kill. So needless to say, host wins (in theory).

What do you think, and why?

1v1s aren't really meant to be taking completely seriously. They are just for bragging rights with friends and stuff.

1v1's online are a joke. It comes down to who has a better host. On lan, they can be a good indicator of who is a better 1v1 player. 1v1s are not anything like 4v4s. I think that the only thing that transfers over is your ability to predict what your opponent is going to do.

You make a valid point. I completely agree with you, and everyone else that has commented so far. Thanks!

If ninja can go 140-1 on xbl then beat apg on lan 15-0, then it does matter. 1v1 makes your dmr perfect, it has to be, or else you lose. It also makes you remember weapon control/times. There are still so many people that forget to get weapons in a 4v4 game. So i think 1v1 does help in some aspects.

In 1v1's your always on the edge of your seat, if you dont have map control on some maps you could get back smacked or come from behind in a flash, it makes you think and react fast which can translate to 4v4

Ninja is better than APG period. Ninja, in my opinion, is just on another level. Another thing to consider is that I believe Ninja won 15-0 on element. Element is a map where if you have a godly grenade launcher *cough cough ninja* you will ALSO be able to control camo. Weapon control times? anyone that is decent at the game will be aware of spawn besides, and if not ONE of the four people will remember. And in 1v1's u get put in positions or go to positions you wouldnt necessarily go to in a 4v4. This causes for some odd DMR battles, but i do agree that it helps train you to keep the reticle on the body.

They prove about as much as they have in any other Halo title: nothing.

I think 1v1s are ALL about smarts. predictions and juking out your opponent by being sneaky.

1v1 makes your dmr perfect, it has to be, or else you lose.
or Octagon. But 1v1s have you in different situations where you may have to snipe WITHOUT any cover fire, making it difficult. maybe no-scope too.

It just changes up your playstyle so that you can better rely on yourself in situations.

Host is worse for Octagon, first of all.

1v1s mean nothing on Halo. Towey beat Neighbor in Octagon.

i don't think 1v1s mean very much besides being able to show some individual skill. it shows nothing for teamwork, 4v4, and objective games.
and all this talk about host...i pull host all the time and the only good thing about it is the connection is fast and not laggy. other than that, host sucks in reach. i can't spam people at all when i have host, i have to pace or else my shots don't register at all, but other people can spam 5 me like crazy. i can't snipe on host very well either, it feels like my bullets go right through people. and host sucks in octagon because you spawn with full bloom and can't hit a shot, and it makes it really easy for the other guy to snipe you and then spawn trap more. the best connection in reach is playing off the host of someone who lives really close to you.

so all in all, 1v1s don't mean much, and host is overrated.

Here is my two cents and bare with me...it's long:

1v1s DON'T matter at ALL when it comes down to 4v4s. Honestly...if the people you are playing with are GOOD and SMART, you shouldn't be getting into any 1v1s to begin. It does happen though. I think the actually 1v1 matches are good for this: weapon spawns, predicting, learning to survive, and getting your shot on point. That all translates over into 4v4, BUT you can get all of that up on other playlists or in 4v4s as well. I mean, a bunch of TS playlist kids have great shots...

I send this warning out though to all of those kids who play 1v1s and think 1v1s matter:

I had a previous team mate who was very good at 1v1s, very. That's all he did. Great shot etc etc. He learned a very "lone wolf" slayer mindset. He wouldn't work with the team though like team shot wise and pushing and etc....and he started to become VERY stubborn and cocky about how things should be played because at the end of the game, his k/d was usually better compared to some team mates. He didn't consider them on "his level." Be warned. Just because you are great at 1v1s, doesn't mean you will be a great team player and do well in 4v4s.
