Black Magic Intensity Pro

i tried to use the search feature but kept getting 404s. and looked through a few pages before i decided to just post. so i did try!

anyway, does anyone have the black magic intensity pro card for their computers? do you like it? any pros and cons youd like to share? i really want to get a capture card and was leaning more towards a black magic cap card. i dont really want to get the shuttle, trying to keep things neat in my pc.

so....

pros and cons and things you like if you have one :) much appreciated in advance

dont get the shuttle unless you have USB 3.0 ports on your computer. Also, Black Magic is better for livestreaming, while Hauppauge HD PVR is better for game recording, so make sure you know what you are going to be using it for.

More game recording. But the hauppauge doesn't have hdmi. Which is what I would like to use with one of my monitors. I could use component but going from tv across the floor to computer and then back again would be a huge mess. I'm thinking intensity pro is the solid choice.

If you have $1000 to spare and a Mac with Thunderbolt. The Black Magic UltraStudio3D looks like a great investment, as well low latency because of the Thunderbolt support. Theoretically you could use it in conjunction with an iMac or Apple Display as the primary monitor.

It seems overpriced but if you look at its functionally, it reduces you needing a extra monitor because of data transfer rates, combine that with it being a cap card your additional cost is under $500.

Its professional grade production equipment, it's capable of direct uplink [on profesional broadcasting camera's is an additional $2000+], it's portable and has 3D capabilities.

At first glance it looks hideously overpriced. Coupled with it's resale value, if you have an interest in broadcasting as a whole, it looks a great buy. Would be great for both streaming and recording and has HDMI in and out.

Also depending on the distance from TV - Computer, it's possibly neither would be advisable. Above 3m you will start to get some latency, and obviously the longer the more latency.

I'm sure this has crossed you're mind, but you would want the xbox at the computer with a short HDMI.

I already have a few monitors so I was thinking of going xbox to intensity pro to monitor. With a shirt hdmi cable of course. Not to big of a fan of apple. But let's not get into that

I'm impartial, I have both systems. From what I understand Apple are the only ones at the moment pushing and supporting Thunderbolt, everything else seems to be USB 3.0.

BMI is better for both things actually.. has the best quality you can get for under $300. That is of course if you have a raid array for uncompressed capping. If you can't do the uncompressed capping, the compressed capping is still better than the hauppauge.

I'll probably just capture compressed. I really don't want to spend a lot on a huge raid setup. I will probably need another hard drive
