Hey guys! I am having a lan next week at my house and i was wondering if I am able to lan by connecting two four port routers with an ethernet cable.

yes, but you will use up one of the lan ports when you link them together.

Technically yes, but you'd really only end up with 6 boxes on the network... one LAN port on each router would hook into the LAN of the other, occupying 2 of the 8 ports

if you hook them up internet port to internet port, it would take some additional configuration and it might actually end up laggy... since the router would have to translate all the layer 3 packets... and NAT translation... just not a good idea

you can get an 8 port switch cheap, and newegg.com usually ships in 3 days or less

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010066%204093%20600015695&IsNodeId=1&name=8%20x%20RJ45

personally i'd get this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833156266
i've used trendnet switches at work and they've been speedy and reliable, and it's still on the cheap side. not the greatest switch in the world, but it will suit your needs just fine.

one of my friends whom (<-- is that correct grammar, lol) hosts a Lot of LANs always buys a hub from Best Buy the weekend of the LAN, and then returns it afterwards; if you don't feel like committing to your purchase.

The only thing that you may need to do out of the ordinary is get a Crosslink cable rather than a regular Cat5 cable.

No real price differences.

Just get an 8 or 16 port hub/simple switch.

a switch is the best thing for a LAN party. although the router thing works too, but you might need 3 of them, and you might have to configure the routers and turn off DHCP
