OK, I just bought the new low-end Macbook Pro 15". I have a PC that I built and use daily but i think I am going to turn it into a dedicated server for my upcoming website. I know that it's possible to run windows on a mac anyways so I thought this would be a good investment for college and my future business. I want to try to sample a different OS and was wondering what advantages they have over windows. So what should I be looking forward to when it comes in the mail?

List some Pros and Cons about them if you could :)

Thanks!

pros of mac: faster, more reliable, less frustration, awesome software, lasts 10 years, great battery life, endless entertainment, the multitouch gestures on the trackpad are amazing, apple customer service
Cons: nothing, since you can run windows in case you need to

that about sums it up. i love macs if you couldn't tell, and everyone i know that switched to mac has never looked back.

the one con is some windows programs may not run quite as good on bootcamp, parallels or whatever your using. However some programs actually run better. You should be expecting a really fast and reliable computer, thats perfect for creating and designing your website. I wouldnt advise doing any hardcore gaming on it though haha, I can play WoW and SC2 fine on mine but a PC is where that belongs.

Good Luck and hope your happy with your investment (I have no doubts you will be :])

Pros: No issues with virus because no one cares enough to make them.
Last 10 years because it doesn't get an update for 10 years
Anything you can do on it will run really well

Cons: Not meant for gaming
Can't run somethings a PC can
A lot of software is not compatible with Mac
Hardly no customizing for it.

Conclusion: a PC can do anything a Mac can do. Can do it even better if the person knows what their doing. A Mac is a simplified computers for those who don't understand the inner workings of a PC.

It's like saying "I'm a gamer, I can't figure out this dang Xbox." Then going out and buying an Atari.

In all reality it's just a preference of which you would prefer.

They update the OS about every year or two, hows Microsoft doing on that?
You act like PC's are hard to use, sure Mac's are easier, and thats the point but you dont need to be a brain surgeon to use a PC. Macs arnt made for gaming and you shouldnt compare a Mac to a gaming PC. Its like comparing apples and oranges, their both fruits but have a different taste and purpose. Ive been on Mac's my entire life but Ive also built a PC for myself and two more for friends, dont assume that if someone uses a Mac their computer knowledge or intellectual capacity is lacking, thats just ignorant.

We're on a gaming forum.
I was simply giving my two cents and standing by it. No need to get mad if it offends you. If you don't like, it ignore it.

I own a Mac. I own a PC. I use both for completely different things. A Mac is user friendly. It's not an opinion, it's a fact. PC are simply more complex. It's more complex in the sense that what apple sells you in their Macs are actually good. I've not once bought an already put together PC simply because they are crap normally. I never once said that anyone who uses a Mac is lacking computer knowledge. I said that Macs are built for those who don't understand the inner workings of a PC. It's not an insult, again it's also not an opinion, it's a fact. Apple sold an easier use computer. There isn't anything wrong with that. It's a high selling point actually.

Don't argue against my point and contradict yourself in your own argument. I was stating my opinion and stating some facts at the same time.

If you have a problem with it, don't bring it back here. Send me a PM and I'll gladly just send you this link http://www.apple.com/feedback/ because they're the ones that can change it.

So as a business computer, will my Macbook Pro be good for managing my websites and all the programs that I need? I spent $1600 on it new, but I plan to make way more than that with my business so I don't want people telling me I wasted my money.

Edit: My PC that i built I used for gaming, and I don't plan to use it for gaming anymore. I plan to turn it into a server to run my website off of. My Mac will be used to manage everything including designing, payments, and everything else.

You didn't waste your money. It really depends on what your doing with your mac. I have a couple of pc laptops I use around the house for normal use, checking mail, ebay, capping games. stuff like that. But when it's time to do the heavy stuff, using Adobe programs such as premiere, photoshop, I use a macbook. I have the privilege of working a place where I can take the high end Macbook Pro i use at work home so i didn't have to buy one. And I wont lie, I am using the Macbook more and more.

Its true, you can use a good PC to do most things a Mac can. but if your going to be working with mostly Adobe products for creating your website and using creative tools and programs, you did the right thing by getting a Mac...

oh and they look way better :)

I used to be a Mac user when I was in growing up then I started using a PC because it was easier to me and my school converted to PC. But I used a little bit ago and I really like the way they perform and look. Also I got advise from a very smart person that I should be using a Mac for my business. Thanks for letting me know :)

Another question, What programs should I look forward to using when I get it? I know it has many Mac OS only programs that are pretty cool.

in my first post i was talking about preinstalled software (iLife, OS programs, etc.)
Every program that comes preinstalled is pretty awesome. ichat rocks because you can be logged in to a bunch of different chats at the same time, like AIM, and whatever else, you can even configure facebook chat to load on it. ichat also has really good video chatting and Screen sharing, which is really cool.
iLife has iphoto, which is sick, iMovie, itunes, etc. My favorite is garage band because i play guitar, and you can hook up a guitar and basically use garageband as an amp, with all different effects. plus, you can record a bunch of different tracks and make songs!
With Lion coming out in a few days, you'll be able to do all the new stuff that it has to offer.
I personally used adobe Dreamweaver on both the PCs at school, and my mac, and it was so much better on mac. Photoshop and that other stuff is also much better on mac.
all in all, i guarantee it will be above your expectations, as it is with everyone i know that owns one.

PS: you should, however, get microsoft office for mac. it's pretty useful.

I actually work for Apple so I'd be more than happy to talk you with you about pros and cons if you'd like. If you dont mind me asking what pc are you using now? I'm not one of those who's diehard one or the other. I prefer Apple products obviously. but there are definitely good alternatives. I actually use a blackberry playbook more often than my ipad. I will say though as it sounds for you w/school&your company a mac is a great choice for you. assuming you got the 2.0 i7 w/4gb ram? That's a really popular computer cause it can do TONS of things, it's a hauss of a laptop, it'll last longer than the owner xD, and it really is pretty cheap as far as the mac scale goes. if you want you can contact me on skype or AIM, mlgcoachchaos
