View Full Version : Thoughts on new MLG setup? (Anaheim)

Hey guys i just wanted to know everyone's thoughts on the new set up for Anaheim. I just want people to know first exactly what it is.

Sundance was streaming earlier and showing the set up and i don't want people to think differently than what the actual set up is.

On the left side of the venue, you have Halo Reach with 3 big projection screens, and the usual set up of the main stage.

The center is Starcraft 2 with one MASSIVE projection screen that you will be able to see from anywhere in the venue.

The right is COD: Black Ops with one projection screen and the same main stage.

I believe that this is the best idea for MLG. I know that this is a halo site but to be honest SC2 is a more popular and played game than Halo. I know we all love halo around here and think it should be the main event but this is a business for Sundance and he must do what is best for the company and make it grow and expand even more. I am happy halo still has the 3 screens though and it still is the most prize money. If you don't watch Sc2 or you don't know much about it i suggest you go to youtube and learn about it. It is one of the most fun and challenging games to play, as well as the most fun to watch if you understand. I advise any gamer to at least try the game out ask someone for the free week of playing.

I hope everyone enjoys the event, good luck to all the competitors, and hope everyone has fun!

well since halo still has three screens im not upset about it at all....i do feel like the halo fans should try to out do the sc2 fans at Anaheim by being louder then them lol !!!

I'm actually okay since Halo still has three screens because I also love Starcraft and watch the Tastosis (by far the best casters at MLG, Day9 is okay but he never has good partners, he's only good with Husky) stream when there is a break in the Halo action. I would like to see LoL get staged now, and Blops should be replaced by something else because honestly, I fell asleep trying to watch it.

Sounds like Halo still has a great setup with 3 big screens. I've got no problem with this. I think some of us, myself included, were a little more worried than we needed to be. Looking forward to Anaheim!

I am fine with that, regardless of what I said the other day. They kept the stages the same just moved them around. Halo you can still view all 8 players so it's all good!! My main concern was if they were going to not use the same screens for viewing for Halo.

i don't mind halo not being center, in fact it's probably better because there's only stuff going on to one side, not both sides. i think starcraft should get two screens though. black ops....well no one cares about that...

This was inventible, Sundance just cant pretend that Halo is bigger than Starcraft because he would be lying to himself. The game that draws the most people to the venue deserves to be front and center. With all honesty SC2 is the most skilled game of the three and the players who compete at this level and no less than amazing and that deserves to be the center of attention. Even in Anahiem, during the SC2 finals the place couldnt seat everyone, unfortunately Halo and CoD cannot do that. I personally love all the games MLG has on its roster and will be watching all four streams for the entirety of the event and I advise you all to do the same. Do me a favor and If you have never popped into the CoD stream or SC2 stream do so this event because the competition has never been better and you will be no less than entertained. I am proud to say Im a fan of eSports not just Halo. Im just happy that MLG has the need to expand their event, it means eSports are becoming more and more recognized and nobody here can complain about that.

this is retarded. Halo is the reason mlg exists. Pathetic, i am really mad at this. Halo takes way more skill. SC2 is a button pusher game. Yes i know it has strats, but i think if you learned and played none stop you would get better in SC2. Halo plays so fast and has way more exciting moments. 49 to 49 standoff and ball being held with just enough time. I am sorry this is stupid.

This is the most uninformed post I have ever seen, as much as I love Halo, it doesnt take half the skill to play professionally. Professional SC2 players move at about 150-200 Actions Per Minute just to stay competitive and make enough units not to get butt fucked. Then on top of having to keep up their speed, they must consider their starting strategy and quickly change it based on they're opponents strategy and continue adjusting it on the fly so they have the right units to defend 8 colossus in their main. Most Pro SC2 players have played Starcraft for 8-11 years and still are not the best. A lot of Pro Halo players didnt even play Halo 2. I realize Halo is what started MLG but if they depend solely on Halo MLG may not exist in 2 years, SC2 is what is hot right now, maybe Halo 4 will bring twice the crowd as SC2 but right now it brings about half. Do us all a favor and learn about the game before you make a comment about something you know nothing about. Halo is one of my favorite games but skill wise its leagues behind SC2.

im sorry, Halo: Reach is boring to watch. Its just a sad truth. Oh... Cool... A sniper kill, theres not massive amounts of auto aim or anything like that! oh look. he won a spamming battle :/

HALO 4 is Halo's last chance to be taken seriously as a competitive game. At this moment, SC2 deserves to be at the center of attention.

i personally don't get starcraft, and i think that halo is more skillful because of the way you need to work with your teammates, but starcraft has like 10x more fans worldwide, maybe even more than that, so it deserves to be center stage. MLG is making bank because of starcraft

SC2 takes more skill
SC2 is more fun to watch
SC2 is a more popluar game
SC2 brings in more viewers and money

It also has about 1000X the community as Halo. That many people can't all be wrong.

Exactly how I feel. Not denying that Starcraft takes a ton of skill to play but I just don't care to watch it, or learn it. To me its like soccer. I appreciate how its the most popular sport in the world, and all the skill and dedication it takes to play at a high level, but get bored as hell watching it. Unless its the US team in the World Cup final I'm not going to watch it. Thats how I feel about Starcraft. :/

This said, I realize MLG is a business, and SC is helping it grow to areas of the world that MLG would otherwise never go to. Halo may not have center stage, but it has the most screens, and should not be hurt by this.

What is concerning me some is the tone that this is all taking on. There is a definite "Us v. Them" mentality going on a little bit here. I've seen some very hostile comments made about Starcraft, and likewise about Halo. To a lot of people you have to be either "Team Starcraft" or "Team Halo", and I think thats too bad. There is no need for either fan base to get hostile at one another, we're all gamers. :)

^truth. the one thing halo has over sc2 is it brings more actual competitors(just cause it is a 4v4 game and it has an ffa).
other than that mlg is run by sc2 and its because we got a shit halo. if halo 4 ocmes out and is awesome i see a shared main stage with cod being kinda in the background.

I'm suprised. People who like Reach a lot are starting to actually admit it.
Although, I see what you are saying. They made sniper and rockets too easy, its hard to practice on XbL because its a spamming contest, there is no true ranking system to get at least decent teammates, most mlg maps are gray and dull, etc. And on top of that, not much people play it because it does not feel like Halo anymore. I got used to it, it not bad of a game, but not great either. I like watching it. The only thing I do not like when I watch Halo Reach is seeing enable t-bagging Instinct in Dallas.
All we can do is just being patient for the update or Halo 4.

I knew this day would come.........

MLG being over run by strategy games and TLN announcing "It's been a incredible run" thread..... Reach destroyed the Halo community in my eyes. Hopefully H4 can revive it.

Oh well, like Mr.P said "It's been an incredible run". For me personally, I've followed Halo since 04, but lost interest when they introduce bloom and AA in Halo tbh.

Sorry for going off topic, but needed to vent seeing how the Halo community is dying on MLG.
