So, as some of you may know, I have been an event attendee for quite some time now. I have several very good friends that I have made through the MLG live events, and I enjoy visiting with them again when these come around. However, due to some personal issues, I have decided that this will be my last event for the season. That is, unless I can find a sponsor, which I hope to accomplish soon. I just wanted to share the awesome experience I had finally getting to participate in the tournament as a coach as opposed to just watching it happen.
So, I got in to LAX at 11:30 or so, one hour later than planned. My buddy came and picked me up at the airport as he had driven to Anaheim. I got into his sweet Chrysler 300 and we hit In-n-Out before heading back to the hotel, with an accidental detour though south central that was interesting to say the least. When we got to the hotel, we all pretty much just went to sleep since there was nothing really happening on Thursday night.
In the morning, we set up the four stations that we had brought out, and got some split screen practice in as well. Afterward we headed downstairs and got our registration taken care of, got some lunch, and waited for the doors to open. In the meantime, I met Jayseph and Havoc outside, as well as spoke with Coby and his dad, Ken. Like I said, I have quite a few friends at these events.
When we got into the event, we didn't spend much time dawdling, and we got our warm ups in against a pretty horrible team that we dominated in eight or so games in a row. Then, they closed down the free play about an hour and a half before the first round. When we got called to play the first round, we found out that our WB1 series was against the 29th seed, Active Threat. We had a pretty close first game, and then lost Countdown Flag 5-1. It was a very disappointing start, but we didn't play again until the next day, so we sucked it up, and spent the rest of the afternoon outside the event. We went to Best Buy and got some stuff, then played in the room for a while and just hung out.
Saturday saw us up early as we were expecting the LB2 rounds to start at 10am. We went down and got in some playing time with a better team, and then after a delay till 11am, we got ready to play our LB2 match against the 36th seed team whose name I can't recall right now. Anyway, we won the first slayer game on Zealot 50-44. We were pretty hype, and went into the second game firing, but we got out-teamworked and lost game two. Then, after someone in the crowd yelled how we were gonna choke, we stepped it up, and steaked them on Countdown for the series win. After we said good game and shook hands we immediately went to our next match, this time against the 30th seeded team. It seemed that our confidence was carrying over, as we completely dominated them in a quick 2-0 fashion. We got up, hyped out of our minds, and hurried to grab a snack before our next match. Before we could however, we found out that there was no time before our next round, and we quickly got seated again.
Our next opponent was the 61st seed, Elite Four. We went into the first game well, but towards the end lost top control and our teamwork at the same time. They ended up with a comeback win, and though we put up a valiant effort, they won Countdown slayer 50-44, and Sanctuary flag 5-2. I won't make excuses for the loss, and we were proud of ourselves, and our performance as a team. Hopefully, when we make it back for Orlando, we will have our old core three back together with one of our teammates back from this event. If so, we expect to make at least a top 20 run. In any case, thanks for reading if you got this far, and I hope to see some of you in the future.
