Our viewership numbers this year have been staggering, and MLG now pulls in larger audiences than several traditional television cable networks, said Sundance DiGiovanni, CEO, Major League Gaming. Our live streams of the Pro Circuit National Championships garnered more 18-24 male viewers than Comedy Central, MTV, TBS, and FX draw in an average quarter hour and nearly as many as Adult Swim.

These are some pretty impressive statistics. It makes you wonder if MLG will be on national television soon. What do you think?

I don't see why not. With the partnerships they have created they may get some attention from tv networks. Perhaps a G4 or some smaller channel would pick them up. And now with people seeing barcrafts pop up and look at the numbers you can't deny that MLG is growing at an incredible rate.

TV is no longer the golden standard to strive for, MLG should stay primarily online imo.

I do not believe MLG will make it on TV...Unless they do like they did when it was on USA...and chop it up...They cannot have 3 hours of down time....The internet is it's own thing now...They actually talked about it at the NASL...About how first there was radio, then TV, and now Internet

maybe it will be on tv, but dont forget it already was on tv. There is a reason they pulled it off but who knows what the future holds

I doubt it will be on television, at least anytime soon. Having a gaming event on television would be troublesome. You'd have to fit it into an allotted time. Then on top of that you'd have the station wanting to run multiple commercials and having to fit them all in would eventually separate matches. Imaging having multiple commercials in the middle of your favorite match.

no it didn't but with the following it has now. And we aren't talking one game. TV could be used to cast primary matchups on each game. Then you also cast via internet for those that want to wait between games to see the game they want (halo, sc2, cod). It has to go beyond only showing one game. It could work and better then it did in the past.

I agree with what apollo said, TV is on its way out. Netflix, Hulu, youtube, and twitch are growing rapidly. As the means to deliver content without a cable subscription evolve I think the internet will soon be recognized as just as if not better for watching video.

That is a good point forbidden. I kinda like that idea. I would love to see E-sports as a whole get known better on a mainstream level. I am tired of having to explain my biggest hobby of watching video game tournaments to people that just don't understand because they have not been exposed to gaming on a professional level at all... and I live in the middle of a whole in the ground so that doesn't help either.

Yea internet streaming is huge but TV is a whole different group of people that MLG could reach. MLG has internet streaming already why not expand?

Like I said before if it was up to me I would only but big matchups on TV. That way you can broadcast all MLG games on one channel. If you stay on the stream for Halo you have so much downtime its crazy. Mixing all 3 or more games on a tv broadcast would help intro people to esports.

Except how would you handle say MLG gets an hour to broadcast this. The Halo match ends in say 20 minutes then Sc goes on for like an hour itself. That's already over the time. Plus you would have commercials in the middle of all the matches which would be terrible.

Who says it would be an hour block? I'm not saying I have the answers. But it would have to be negotiated between MLG and whatever channel its broadcast on. Yes you have commercials but the matches have commercials between games anyway don't they? Or (and this is wayyyyyy out there) what if the tv is run on say an hour delay that way there is no waiting between televised matches.

The hour block was just an example. There is a difference between the commercials you see on TV and the ones you see on a stream though, instead of seeing a single 3 minutes commercial like you would on stream, it would be several 4-5 minute long commercials. If they did do it on a delay that would suck because most people would know the results before they even saw the match.
It could work but it's not really worth all the hassle and money to appeal to a televised audience when even most TV is switching to be on your computer.

Truth, I don't even touch my TV besides for gaming. I watch all my TV shows, movies, and etc online, however I feel G4 would be the best bet for MLG to be on television.

I'm interested in what you're saying could you please elaborate?
It makes me so happy to see and watch the development of MLG go from something really small to blowing up to something on a Global scale and for you to help and contribute in some way makes it even cooler while also giving you a sense of pride :)

I don't think that comparing it with those TV channels makes it very amazing. Don't get me wrong we had a lot of viewers but they get those numbers on the average if they had a big event and compared it to tv channels having their regular schedule of course it'd seem big.
by all means though
internet > tv

MLG should just stay online because it saves more money then putting it on tv which online already owns T.V. But it will bring more basic veiwers that don't know about mlg to the scene

The Internet is the place for gaming. It would be extremely difficult to play a event on TV, especially an MLG event that has 3 or more games being played competitively.
Now that I give it more thought I think ESPN would be a good place cause they have about 5 Channels under their control. 1 game per channel but then ESPN would have to really want to get involved.
