View Full Version : Thoughts on a TLN Podcast?

Hey everyone!

I was sitting here thinking about the possibility of an official podcast for The LAN Network. Hosts of the podcast would be on each week (possibly multiple times a week) to discuss what is going on inside TLN and branch out to talk about gaming in general. The hosts of the show could also serve as possible commentators during the LAN's and become TLN personalities.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like you could be onto something, i would say we should get some segments about all MLG games not just Halo.

yeah i agree with aran, alll games. TLN really needs to be open minded to all ESports and not just halo.

This would be cool if something got going with TLN. However to bring in viewers it would be preferable to do more then just Halo. And to of course have people on that are meaningful within the community (of gaming not just TLN). People want to see people they know and are interested about.

this definitely sounds like a great idea. As everyone else has said you need to talk about all MLG games to bring the numbers in. At least talk about Halo and SC2.

A TLN podcast would be sick. How often would it be?

Would this be viewed live or download-only?
i.e. on twitch.tv and embedded on TLN or something of the sort?

With the right amount of bandwidth and the proper software, you could stream to multiple sites as well, own3d, twitch/justin, livestream, ustream, etc ... increased exposure could expand the brand

Just no ads, please... don't make everything all about money

As far as frequency, I think anything more than 3 times a week would be too much, the episodes wouldn't be so info-rich and probably relatively short. Less than once per week would be too much dead time in between episodes and repeat viewership might be a problem. A set schedule (that actually adheres to the times set) would be a nice idea as well.

I'm kind of torn on the content quandary though... As much as I want TLN to grow, expand, and prosper, the idea of just throwing other major games into the mix frightens me. There are already SO many shows that talk about ONLY SC2 that the competition for viewers would be tough in that community. However, sticking to purely Halo related content limits your potential audience a lot and also poses the question of "what happens if Halo dies?" for the future. Perhaps maybe sticking with console-only titles would expand the potential topic content without severely increasing the competition for viewers.

I will say that the idea of sticking to MLG titles is a good one, however personally I would expand it a bit to include any truly competitive title, not just the ones MLG deems worthy. Considering the fact that between these recent seasons, a lot of games were left in limbo unsure of their future in MLG, having a show that bases all of it's content on the decisions of another corporation, whether they are good or bad, seems like you're walking a very thin line. I think we need to step out of the mindset that whatever MLG says is how things should be.

MLG = eSports
but
eSports ≠ MLG

This could be good if you can find things to talk about. I nominate Walshy as the first guest, am I right?
