View Full Version : Genuine Question

So, I visit TLN every day still, trying to see when the new content will surface. The same content exists, untouched, unfazed, and it seems no end is in sight. Not trying to troll at all, it's just a genuine question. When will this site change? When will the new content surface? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

knowing that there's a LAN in the latter stages of planning is nice...
Meanwhile, the halo council is releasing multiple halo 4 leaks, analysis videos, E3 info, etc... on a DAILY basis
The community isn't as welcoming or nice as i know TLN has been in the past, but at least they have content. Just avoid the forums (even though these ones are dead).

I do understand your point of the Halo Council which is another site I do visit but We should try and support both.

This is a question that we would all like to know about and what we all want answers too. I myself visit TLN everyday and get upset that there are no new forms to look at every day like what used to be. I think the most straight shot answer will be when Halo is accepted back as an e-sport. Right now there are no major events for it. Halo is almost dead it is on it's last string and if Halo 4 doesn't bounce us back I am afraid there is no way to even recover. :( So to answer your question, it doenst look like it is going to change very soon, unfortunately.

I addressed this in some other posts i've made recently. There is no reason why there aren't any major events. It's up to the community to stop whining and crying about MLG and go support other event organizers. I myself posted about a new online league trying to get people to keep their competitive edge and such, and if that site had the support of the community and the players to put in money, it could/would quickly grow into a larger Live LAN sort of organization. Perhaps still run online qualifiers first, but still...
"No events" ... pfff ... it's not due to the lack of opportunity.

So... your suggestion is just to wait until Nov 6? Then TLN will be good again? Seems reasonable.

So will there be an event in Raleigh for Reach? I really hope there is. Yes, Reach, for all intents and purposes, is dead, but I still believe that a last hoorah event in Raleigh would net a sizeable amount of attendees.

problem with this site and other's is a lot of people don't want to do online tournaments because of the issues surrounding it with host, connection, and IP booting or whatever it is called. especially if a tournament were to be paid by the players, why pay for something that has so many factors that effect gameplay? it's just tough for any online site to get going and try to turn into a live event. until something can be done to prevent these issues...which i dont think you can avoid them...competitive online just wont take off. look how many people complain about GB and that has been the most successful online site to compete at. people know there are a lot of teams who do well based on connection alone.

I won't argue that LAN is better than Online, but 90% of most peoples gameplay is in online MM, so why argue over an online tournament. Besides, you can always contest a loss via theater mode, an official can review and make a decision. Matches could be forced to be re-played. As long as it's a more drawn out tournament (i.e. not a single-day event) to allow adequate time for proper game review, it shouldn't be too horrible. Plus, matches would be broken down into regions (if possible) so you would play with geographically close opponents, to minimize network anomalies. I realize that teams are formed cross-country sometimes, but there's only so much that can be done.
And as I mentioned, the eventual intent was to use the online tournaments as a qualifier to an invite-only LAN tournament with a much larger prize.
But, in the past (H3 days, arguably the peak time period of Halo MLG, in population anyway) I've held local LANs in Macon and Atlanta and could barely scratch up enough players to pay a $5 entry to break even on renting an event hall. Kids just don't want to play if it's not for MLG.
Online, LAN, locals, tournaments, bragging rights, just for fun, it doesn't matter - everyone's stuck too far up Sundance's ass, meanwhile he's reaching for the "flush" button.
MLG had a monopoly on Halo. Not because of their business decisions; it was because the players and the community didn't want anything to do with non-MLG competitive play. Now that the monopolizer has moved to a new business venture, everyone says Halo is dead. If you are saying Halo is dead, then it is dead because of you.
Lets say, for example, Ford suddenly became the ONLY car manufacturer in the world. If you wanted a car, you had to buy a Ford, but you could choose to walk or ride a bike. Since a car is the best and fastest mode of transportation, you buy a car. The next year, Ford decides it doesn't want to make cars anymore, they're going to only make living room furniture (random, I know, just stay with me). They also decide to no longer support your vehicle warranty, since they don't make cars anymore.
Your car breaks down and there's no one to fix it. Since Ford is out of the car business, several other small unknown companies begin to make cars to fill the market gap. You now have two choices: you can take a change, live on the edge, and buy a car from an unknown company and still get to work and go shopping, etc; OR you can buy a nice, shiny, comfy new Ford couch to sit on at home. Which would you do?
Now, just a little outline for those that can't follow that paragraph:
Ford = MLG
Walking/riding = Other FPS-ish games (GoW3, MW3, CoD:BO, CS:GO, BF3)
Cars = Halo
Couch = Starcraft
Other car companies = CGL, FGL, NGL, etc...
Plug in any other company into that scenario.
What if Microsoft stopped making Windows?
Would you just not own a computer anymore?
Would you just use MAC or Linux?
What if McDonalds stopped selling food?
Would you starve to death?
Would you just go to Subway or Wendy's?
What if Charmin stopped making toilet paper?
Would you just have a shitty ass?
Would you switch to Cottonelle or poison ivy? Maybe even your own hand if necessary?
Why does everyone blame MLG for not having Halo on the circuit when we're the ones who handed them the monopolization. Now they have made an GOOD BUSINESS DECISION, and everyone's mad at them because there are no options left. At least, none that they choose to pursue.

It's not that TLN is dead, it just hasn't gotten started yet. The owner is getting married. I'm gonna give him a few months to get things underway. In the meantime, if you have any ideas, please let me know. You can be in charge of implementing your idea.

I was being serious...
HOWEVER
I heard some interesting things from a friend of mine that may or may not relate directly to TLN. I would like to get in touch with someone in the know to confirm/deny these speculations. Not sure how hush-hush any of this is supposed to be so...
All hope is not lost, but I think several months of low traffic and no new content could be a nail in the coffin for the TLN community, that's all... Hopefully, if these things I've heard are true, things will move very quickly and some amazing things will happen soon!
