View Full Version : TLN dead? No I'm not!!!

I just want to reassure you guys that TLN is not dead. Dormant, yes. Asleep, maybe. However, I want to make it perfectly clear that TLN is not a living entity. It is an inanimate thing. In fact, as a website, it technically exists as nothing but a bunch of 1's and 0's. Just a series of electrical signals.
What you are really talking about dying is the community. Not the forums; the people. I can assure you that I am still here. If need be, I will be TLN by myself.
Things will change. Whether Halo is the headliner or just a small part of that change is yet to be seen I think, but we can be certain that TLN will be a player in the future of gaming. If it came to it, I'd recreate the entire forum as a geocities (does that even still exist?) domain. Basic HTML scripting from 1997 FTW.
Always know that I am lurking in this forum. My moderator eye is not all seeing, but my voice rings through every keystroke and mouseclick. I AM TLN, AND I CANNOT DIE.
So tell me, are you TLN?

"Whether Halo is the headliner or just a small part of that change is yet to be seen I think, but we can be certain that TLN will be a player in the future of gaming"
...does this mean TLN may take the same route MLG has in bumping Halo to the bottom of the totem pole?

I still have TLN saved to my favorites. The community I have experienced here is WAY more enjoyable to be around. I never even post on other forums. I am TLN <3

Eli, I wanted to talk to you about what I was referring to in another thread...
If what I've heard is even remotely true, I'm going to be so excited.

as much i don't enjoy reach i do love tln :p
Kinda hard for TheLANNetwork to be super active without Lans. There's no Lans because there aren't any big Halo tournaments at the moment. So TLN shall be asleep for a while, but we as a community need to make sure we keep supporting TLN.

Just because there's no tournaments doesn't mean there's no reason to have a LAN. I understand a lot of the previous LANs were for "practice" for an event, but there's nothing stopping TLN from hosting a LAN just for the hell of it. People still play Halo, people still want to LAN, even if there are no tournaments.

I'm still here, just not much. Kind of waiting for Halo 4 to come out. Still like competitive Reach, just not as much.

True, but how many Pros want to LAN? Would you watch a LAN with a bunch of random people? I probably would, but not nearly as much if none of the top 16 pros were there.

I've actually streamed LANs with random people, got a few hundred concurrent viewers...
If i had the money to hold LANs more often and built a decent list of followers, I imagine that number could climb... It would at least be enough to keep TLN fresh in peoples minds and encourage players to play more and keep their skills up... it might even increase the amount of local LANs for Halo... I'm reaching a bit here, but if you have the ability, the equipment, and the means... why the hell not?
Besides, what else are the pros doing right now? Half of them are just streaming online anyway... The rest have fucking disappeared...
Hold a classic Halo 3 LAN at TLN, I'd watch the fuck out of that... no teams, no seeds, no nothing... everyone draws a number from a hat and that's your team... so entertaining...

TLN is not forgoing LANs because there are no tournaments. TLN is forgoing everything because the owner is getting married. That's just how it is. Just enjoy your summer and be ready for amazing things in a couple months.

Congrats to him and everything... and I'm not trying to sound like a complete d!ck ...but isn't this why he has a staff, moderators, content team, etc?
or should we always expect TLN to completely shut down whenever he goes on vacation for a few days?

Well, he doesn't have staff yet. I don't remember anyone ever getting paid wages by TLN. The website is here, but until he has the ability and time to turn it into a proper business, there won't be much going on. I know for sure I'm not setting up a LAN. At least not without Rick asking me to do so, and offering some sort of compensation. My time is too valuable.
I know that he has things in the machine. I don't want to say anything specific because it's not my place, nor do I really know enough to give accurate information. No, you won't have to worry about it shutting down every time he leaves, but until some sort of management system is in place that is how it's going to be. Like I said: Be patient for a couple more months. If you can't, then I'm sorry you were disappointed. Hopefully, everyone who leaves will find their way back by the end of the year.

Hello everybody! I am still here as well. I stop by to read up on some of the posts but I can't seem to stay away from league of legends and diablo 3 long enough to actually post on here as much as I would like. I don't really play Reach anymore as a matter of fact. I will pick it back up soon though because the Halo 4 stuff has got my blood pumping for any type of Halo action and to deny that is just plain wrong on every level.

Hello everyone! No TLN is not dead - just "waiting" like we all are for Halo 4 and something bigger which is my wedding! Besides my daily duties in running several companies I am getting married this month so that is keeping me VERY VERY busy. After the wedding I will have more time to devote to the next TLN tournament and many other BIG THINGS as we all look forward to Halo 4. So yes, we are still here, still put Halo first and looking forward to a bright vibrant future!!

If these fantastical "BIG THINGS" I keep hearing about are what I've secretly heard from other people that they may be about...
I'm going to SQUEE like a giddy schoolgirl when they come to fruition.
