Came across this on the MLG forums. Terrible article that's super biased. They even call it "land practice". Sad if you think about it.

I read this and couldn't help but laugh. This lady clearly did no research when writing this article and just makes herself look rediculous.

all i can say is those gamers make a lot more than you lady, so stfu, and learn what a local area network is.
also, in the comments, someone named "ogre 2" says: "She's just mad that we make more money playing a video game then she does writing horrible articles."
I wonder if it's really him.....

There is a lovely email that Ahlekzandrawr wrote back to the Washington Post here. (http://www.mlgpro.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7780109&postcount=82)
Its pretty good and hopefully they will retract the article.

That's why as gamers we need to carry ourselves more maturely and professionally. The removal of the stereotypes for video games and gamers should have that as one of their highest priorities. Articles like this are ridiculous and the writer clearly lacks any knowledge of the subject, or any integrity. Things like this, we as gamers, should just let slide right off our backs because it's ignorance and idiocy. However, MLG, and gaming in general, is looked on as a joke by the majority of the world, viewed upon as a bunch of young punk nerdy kids who....insert your own stereotype here; we all know them too well. Represent us well gamers, so that one day we can rise above being thought of as some cosmic joke and have MLG, and organizations like TLN, be shown off the for the true gems that they are.

Because clearly it's fair to discredit the entire integrity of an established newspaper based off of one article. It's a terrible article, don't get me wrong, and the fact that sarcasm was attempted outside of an opinion section is irresponsible, but that doesn't change the Post's credibility.

This article is based upon much stereotypes mostly and not researched enough.

I'll be writing a formal letter to the editor tonight. I want to see this retracted. I encourage all of you to do the same. However, I encourage all of you to be very careful with your wording and grammar/spelling. Writing to a newspaper staffed by professional writers is complicated. There were mistakes in Alexandrawr's letter that may cause it to be dismissed. This includes the fact that she wrote to the author, and not her editor.

See this is one of the reasons I love T2, because he represents the gaming community very well and very anti stereotypical. Because unfortunately guys, let’s be real, a lot of her article did hit on truth. Now a lot of it hit on BS too, but we do tend to lean toward those stereotypes.
Sometimes when they interview a pro player I turn around and tell my wife "See this is why gamers have a bad rap." Half the time the player getting interviewed has a vocabulary of a 10 year old. I like to give them the benefit of the doubt saying that they are exhausted, or focused on the game, things like that. BUT...it still feeds into the stereotype and that’s why people view us this way.
As mentioned earlier, it’s up to us to break these stereotypes. Let’s face it, it’s our fault they're there in the first place.
We need this lady to interview Tom.

This actually pissed me off. How could a writer like this get a job at the Wash. Post!!!!!!! I wish there was something I could do about this. Most gamers now a days don't even fit the "Nerd" criteria! Everyone is a human being!!!!!!!!!!

lololololol.
Who knows, maybe it was ogre 2, either way, hilarious.

How is this different than the average interview with NFL, MLB, NBA, and many NCAA players? Oftentimes, listening to them makes me want to vomit. However, in comparison, interviewing a 16-year-old (i.e. Totz) with a 10-year-old vocabulary (Totz doesn't have one, but just for example) vs. interviewing a 30-something year old veteran wide receiver with a 10-year-old vocabulary, even after 4 years of college, the latter should be far more offensive. Most of them have a hard enough time merely trying to enunciate the words. Instead, they seem to slowly dribble off of their bottom lip a majority of the time.
It is strange, though, how these stereotypes seem to just be a collage of stereotypes from other groups. In the high school years, you have the nerds who are the smart ones, the jocks who are the dumb ones, the slackers who are the stinky ones... apparently gamers are dumb lazy nerds? Between the strategy and intelligence needed in these games, the stamina and dedication required to log hours upon hours of practice, and the fact that most of them are living out of suitcases a majority of the time, and rarely in one place more than a few months at a time, all of these stereotypes are fairly easy to debunk.
