CoD: Black Ops General Thread

To kick it off, thoughts on Josh Olin and his hatred towards quickscoping?


1] Explosives are not more powerful than Quickscoping. You have one, or two explosives - not magazines worth in rapid succession.

2] Anyone who Quickscopes will say automatics are easier; that's human nature when defending a point. More importantly is the irrelevance of this point. It doesn't detract from how frustrating and annoying it is for every other player when a quickscoper who has crosshairs taped to his TV screen can Left-Trigger, Right-Trigger before the scope is even fully visible on the screen. That's not how Snipers operate, and is not a fair way to play.

3] All quickscoping kills are cheap. You're firing your bullet, getting your one-shot-kill while the screen is still BLACK from pulling up your sights. You're leveraging Aim Assist and the fact that the bullet will travel perfectly straight upon sighting in with a Sniper Rifle to get a laser-accurate, One-Shot-Kill. It's an exploit.

4] It requires timing, that's for sure - but it does not require aim. When considering the impact Aim Assist, and taping crosshairs on a TV monitor have on Quickscoping.

It doesn't matter if a team of non-Quickscopers will beat a team of Quickscopers every time. I bet my team could beat a team of Quickscopers, no problem. But it wouldn't change the fact that we'd be gritting our teeth in frustration the entire match, which is something as developers we do not want to see.

I believe they have yet to formally announce LAN capabilities. However, JD has on a number of occasions hinted towards it through his twitter (http://www.twitter.com/JD_2020) account.

I don't understand his logic behind his hatred for quickscoping... That's not how Snipers operate, and is not a fair way to play." That's ridiculous to even say because many guns are able to "hip-fire" and does not require you to look down the sights to get a kill. Guns such as the shotguns and most sub machine guns don't require you to look down the sights in order for the gun to be accurate. The sniper is no different..I don't understand his logic.

A LAN lobby itself has been confirmed. The only problem is if they allow to pick whatever weapon you want, perks, ect. That's what destroyed it in the past. During the Reveal event, I was able to squeeze in a couple games and even though my system link rank was 26 or 27, had everything unlocked.

As far as quickscoping goes, I like the idea of making it harder in Black Ops. It makes it that much better when you do it. I don't agree with Josh Olin though.

I think quick scoping is something I've always hated in that game. In the sense that I only play CoD for the realism. I go into matches trying to be precise and stealth. Then some guy sprints around the corner, jumps, turns and quickscopes me. It takes the realism away from the game for me. If I wanted a game that plays like that I would just stick with Halo.

I only have a problem with quick scoping when people decide to quick scope to get kills for their montage or to just show off instead of helping the team win the match.

dude I was not all that excited about this game until I actually read this thread and read up on the game a little bit. Now I am super excited about this game and can't wait until the MLG gametypes come out for it since you can restrict gun, perk, and gear used in custom matches! Oh man this is going to be awesome. :) good thread.

Customization and leveling won me over. I was getting it before but after the Beta, I'm stoked to see how different the game is now.

In other news...Looks like the chances of Challenge Lobbies(10th lobbies in other CoD games) are very slim. With the new dashboard and no plan for a new FreeBOOT, in-game security, Report option, Playback through Theater mode, and 'undercover' employees, this looks like this CoD will be the most legit one thus far.

In other words, slim chances of any Infections such as Wall Hacks, Aimbots, or people getting 15th prestige instantly. It will be awhile before having to worry about any of these from release.

I bought black ops earlier. I dont know if I'm going to keep it yet. COD is so full of people who like to complain, run their mouth, and think they are beast mode for things that are very nooby.

I got 360 crossbow'd. So far, the most epic thing I have seen.

COD4 for me was the best most balanced COD game. It had the best formula and it was the most fun personally. I still Have my COD4 and still play it from time to time. I sold my MW2 about 3 months after release. Black Ops is going to be returned even faster than that. I'm gunna get all the achievements I can and return it. I know its only day one but I know I'm not going to like it because it will never live up to COD4s multiplayer.

Edit: I was going to keep Black Ops to stream customs if the community wanted to but not even that sounds exciting to me. I dont want to put effort into something if my love/interest for it is not there.

Imo I hate Black Ops. I was not a big fan of WaW only the MW series ... This game is too unrealistic on Core I mean for example it takes at least 3 bursts with the M16 to kill some one it is ridiculous even with the hardened perk. Reach will outblow this game and people will finally realise that Black Ops is just the same in WaW ...

I had it for 1 and a half hours and sold it ... Good fight Black - Ops.

I'm going to give abit of a Review/Critique of Black Ops. I had a copy of it bought for me on the PC. So i thought i would at least humour the �45 investment that was given to me.

Menu and Title Screens

So incredibly Laggy, i have never known a title screen be so unresponsive since i try'd to play Bioshock on a Netbook Laptop. If its the Multiplayer or Single player Title screen it doesn't matter it's still horrible. One thing that took me off guard, Backing off into the main menu to Create a class or Spend and Credits. Does that many any sense to anyone?

Gameplay

Single player gameplay is more of the same, Go places kill people. But looking back on the story after it has happened kinda neat. But, because of the way the game is made its heavily Script based. Which means, When Player X reaches this area Y happens. Which is fine, a lot of games are built this way. However CoD seems to do it a odd way, If Y is happens Sidekick A Ignores everything that is happening in the area. This is incredibly frustrating when a guy you are escorting just runs head on into fire and expects you to follow him.

There were also about 6 or 7 areas in the game where i got stuck in places that were being blocked by People/Objects - That is more of a problem with my gameplay rather than anything else, After playing lots of RPG's i tend to explore everywhere.

Now, a Massive bugbear of mine. Mouse Acceleration, ARGH! I had to set my movement speed so low because my mouse randomly decides to freak out and move much faster than I want it to.

Moving onto the Multiplayer Gameplay, Very similar to MW2, and all previous CoD's that were build for the Console. Kill people, get rewards. Buy new things, kill more people. I do have to say, getting onto a server where everyone is about the same level is very fun. But the annoying thing that happens a lot, is getting into a server and there are 6 people on the enemy team with a large amount of unlocks and your just getting dominated by people with Red dot scopes, and attachments and all that good Jazz. That is not fun, that is not enjoyable to play for anyone.
This is only a minor personal gripe. But the FAMAS, Invented in '78 Black ops set during 61-68?

So If you want a overall summing up, Singleplayer is kinda Ok. Same as MW2 new setting, new people same gameplay. Multiplayer, Exactly the same as Mw2 Nothing new here.

So if you liked Mw2, your probably going to like this but its Exactly the same as Mw2, so i don't know why it costs the same as full game rather than a DLC.


TL;DR Version
More of the same everywhere, new maps same weapons for the most part, Single player isn't the best but its passable.
