I've been enlisted for 5 years, and have been to both Iraq and Afghanistan. If you have any questions for me, I will answer them as well.

A mate of mine has been in Afgan for 3 years now with the Royal Marines(On and off of course) He is called Jonny, do you know him?
Jokes, But in serious. How long do you spend at Home each year? Because i know 4 or 5 of my old High school mates they only have 3 months back each year and the rest of the time they are either in Scotland or Afganistan

A few of my friends are pretty certain they will pursue careers in the armed forces. We're only sophmores in High School, but they've been seriously talking about it for years and have taken aviation classes and other courses in school already.
I personally could never do it. Too much physical conditioning and stuff for a skrauny kid like me. I applaud your service though.

If you mean at HOME home, then not much. Active duty gets 2.5 days per month leave (which is actually pretty good). However, I don't know anyone who uses all of it. I'm selling some back, and even when I do take leave, I don't always go home. If you mean home as in 'not in combat' then it depends on what kind of rotation we're on. The Marines usually do 7 months to 1 year deployed, and then they are required to wait 6 months before sending us back (though it doesn't always happen like that.)
I spent a little over a year total over 5 years in various places in the sandbox myself. Also, I'm an Aviation Logistics Informations Systems Specialist. Which is a glorified comms guy. I do data, voice, radio, etc. We just have a more network admin/Unix admin twist.

All my family has been officers in the army. An officer in any branch is a great deal so I'd go for it. (Which I am) lol
