View Full Version : Should the MLG Pro circuit pick up Doubles?

ok, i'm sure there has been threads on this before but i'm going to bring it up. One day I was at home playing halo 3 with my friend(we were, of course playing doubles)and we went on a 17 win streak(P.S. we are both upper 40's)and I said to myself, self why isn't doubles in the MLG Pro circuit? well self replied i don't know, i simply don't know. So i asked my friend and he said i don't know either. After our goodbyes i went into forge and looked at the maps i had just played doubles on, i realized after i took all the regular weapons out(most of them any way, needler stays in... i still remember walshy needling T2 to death XD )and re-arranged the map a little bit it started to look like something you would see on a 4v4 circuit, but a 2v2 scale. So i then went into custom games and edited the starting weapons and grenades and such. I then played a couple more games with my friend again in matchmaking, and we invite the recent players. Well we test ran about 80% of the maps and gametypes i had tweaked and it was fun and competitive.

well we then went into MLG matchmaking and we sent a msg to all RP. We asked "do you like 4v4 mlg, well what do you think about a 2v2?" we got about 96% replies all saying i don't see why not, and well why not SC has it. So you the MLG Community now that halo reach has expanded the possibilities of forging and custom games immensly should MLG bring 2v2 to the Pro circuit. I do realize not everyone is going to agree with this but i would like to see peoples perspectives on this

it could work but that makes an event much longer seeing as 4v4 teams would also take up 2v2 team spots Final Boss would make StK and anoter team also it could cause strife cuz a 4v4 Team could have the people on on but they could all be on other 2v2 teams with other pros spliting practice time. the prize money may go down seeing as more people need to get paid. and would you allow over 400+ 2v2 teams seeing as there is 258 4v4 teams allowed to attend a event?

It's all about event space. MLG struggles to find enough room for just the 4v4 teams along with the other games going on. When there was 2v2 in the past there weren't as many Halo teams playing and there weren't as many other games competing for space either. They would either have to limit the 4v4 space which would mean less money or they would have to play an extra day or so. The amount of 2v2 teams would be INSANE!

I would love to see this though.

im sure they would love to put on 2v2's. it all comes down to money and the money is in 4v4.

I don't see the problem with adding another day, or even just one or two whole events during the year where 2v2 is the highlight.

2v2 games can move pretty quick, and make it a 3-game series, and run split-screen (each team on 1 monitor) and you could get a ton of teams in the same space/time that you do for the 4v4's.

as far as money goes, as long as they charge per team, they'd make the same amount either way... if a to4 signs up it costs $100 (or whatever) and they also want to break up and form 2 separate to2's, that'd be $50 per team, and would be a total of $200 for that "team". Some teams would still stick to the 4v4, and others would just break into 2 to2's, which would still at least make MLG break even compared to what they're making now.

I like the idea but, 4v4 is more entertaining. The closest thing you will get to is using the GameBattles ladder or some other similar online tournament website.

the idea of just finding one player that is also dedicated and that you have chemistry with is awesome but i think these games would be too boring compared to 4v4s.. with 4v4s you have each player with a different flavor

i think thats why they went away with 1v1s..

I think it'd be a cool aspect to add. I think to reduce tournament time and to make sure things finish accordingly to allow everyone to participate in their respective events (4v4 for Halo or maybe other things) they would have to maybe make it single elimination. Or they could just maybe split up days and make specific days dedicated to 2v2 or 4v4. I agree with the idea that it may be odd as some players may do doubles with a player on another team, I'm sure if they decide to pick it up they will have to figure out a good set of rules to make sure it all flows well.

honestly i know i am late to the party but i think that 2v2 would deff ad some aspect to the circut since there having issues with other games I know halo is going know where and looks like star craft and wow have a new home but things like tekken need to have a bigger audience and honestly we need ssfiv in the circut capcom needs to get off there rears and make it work. I can see pwange point but maybe new smaller maps can be built kinda like a arena gladiator style or somthing you know. but as for canidian gym i don't think they have expanded to quickly a example of to quick would be the USFL they were stupid mlg is trying to get more sponsors as well as games at the same time so its a plus not get a new game and no new sponsor. But honestly they do need another main staple they just lost smash bros can nitendo wouldn't get behind them capcom is being stupid i think they should bring in cod and then look into getting more of the soft drink companies involed faygo or amped you know somethings that just loved to have there name around and have the money to support it

I kind of have to disagree with adding doubles into MLG Events. It would be purely slayer and it would be boring to watch compared to 4v4s. Many people already brought up the point of event space, costs of it, and time. I'm not against it, but I'm not for it.

it would be really cool to see that be at MLG events but they would have to extend the length of Events!

It would be pretty good to see Lunchbox and Roy in the doubles pro circuit :D Also MLG would have to forge 2v2 maps.
