From this: http://www.facebook.com/thehangout.inmidland?v=app_2392950137#!/video/video.php?v=155451464499441 to the internet?

So, I can use a vga Switcher to choose which stream to 'capture' and upload but I seem to be stuck on the 'proper' hardware. Dazzle(s) just dont impress me and it seems an HDDVR would do the trick but i want a standalone...not some Tivo type thing. Also i want to take Lag into thought. The VGA2PCIe Cap card partnered with the Black Magic Intensity Pro and a Switcher seems like a logical choice but I figured i'd place the 'seed' here and see what comes of it.

Thanks in advance
Leigh

Dude... that thing is beastly... I want...

Aside from that...

The difficulty seems to be that you are doing it using the VGA cables, for what you're actually trying to do it would be much easier (or at least, much cheaper) to do it through Component (Y/Pr/Pb) or HDMI.

Some people complain about the latencies on those particular connections, but if all 8 machines are using those, it would still leave you with a level playing field.

Aside from that, capturing one POV at a time wouldn't be much of an issue, but I'm assuming you would want to capture all 8 streams, correct? in HD? That's going to take one hell of a computer with some hellacious hard drive space and bandwidth, not to mention CPU power.

Can you shed a bit more light on exactly what you're trying to do? I've been looking into this myself for some of the LAN's we hold and could at least compare and contrast on ideas.

EDIT:
I did a bit of googling and looked up that VGA2PCIe and that looks like a nice card and should do what you need...

Partner that with something like this:
http://us.startech.com/product/VS815RVGA-Converge-AV-8-Port-VGA-Video-Selector-Switch-with-Remote
to switch video sources, and a passive VGA splitter like this:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10104&cs_id=1010401&p_id=3569&seq=1&format=2
then you just pick up the appropriate cables and you should be in business... to at least some capacity.

Nice 4v4 station! very clean look. I use the very same monitor you have hooked up there.

when I read what you are trying to do I was reminded of a thread I saw on the Shoryuken Forums. It might help you step in the right direction. check out their diagram, maybe you can modify their setup a little to suit your needs.

wow von, that diagram made my head hurt. I see what they're trying to do there though, good idea splitting the recording and streaming PC's

good read and it covered my lag/latency concern...the Rack is using 8 asus h222 monitors based on a list i got from MLG on what is acceptable. When we are in Chicago for the Reach kickoff i'm going to be very interested in what TLN uses to stream.

Thanks for the help all.
