Team names are very simple to understand. There are three main components of a good team name: Simplicity/Pronunciation, Originality, and Meaning. I will be giving a variety of good and bad examples of each so you can get a feeling of each aspect.

The first is simplicity/pronunciation, you want to be able to communicate about the team to other people easily and effectively. A team that has a long complicated name is just painful to talk about. People will end up making nicknames for long team names. The name should roll off the tongue, similar to the ones shown in the examples below.

Examples:

Instinct
Legacy
Triggers Down
Dynasty
Legends

teams also need to have original names. This makes the name stick in the player's head better and not confuse it with other teams. Bland names are easy to forget and are very boring, similar to the ones shown in the examples below.

Examples:

The Destroyers
Slayers
Vicious
Team Headshot
Precision

The team name should also have a meaning behind it. This is the toughest part in naming a team, and it's the least important. A team name with some meaning behind it gives the players a reason why it was named what it was named. While a name with no meaning behind it leaves it's players going "WTF?" Even a simple meaning is a good idea, similar to the ones shown in the examples below.

Examples:

Instinct
Final Boss
Dynasty
Legends
Legacy

Combining these three aspects will allow you to choose the best possible name for your team.

You guys shouldn't slack on team names. Team names eventually become a brand once you get known and you will be a representative of that brand. You have to think of what potential sponsors may think of a team name (brand) also Since you will be cross promoting each other in a way.

Think of all the sports teams in football, baseball, basketball, etc. They can all easily be brands and are. This may sound weird but if you want to build up competitive gaming to something respected by outsiders, a good team name can help draw people in. Leagues have to promote dont they? Well, if you are good, and your team name is good, and it gets promoted some way, people will remember it and look out for it.

Branding and the way you represent is important.

Thanks for reading and I hope this guide has helped you on your quest for the best team name ever!

Im pretty sure those team names don't all have l meanings that actually apply to the team, except Final Boss. Ambush picked their name because it sounded good, not because they are known for ambushing people, and all words have a meaning, so any team name comprised of words has a meaning, trying to have your team names meaning associated with fighting, war, competition, winning,or skill, without being to generic like you said is a better way to have a liked name. I like the name triggers down but does it honestly have a meaning? is that supposed to be like pulling a trigger? and HaE is a team that gets nicknamed, and dosent really have a relevent meaning, yet its listed as one of your good team names. Also i think Warriors is a great name because it actually does have a meaning, that team destroyed online and were nicknamed XBL Warriors, so they kept it and destroyed on lan. I agree for the most part just seems a little contradictory

Who cares about the team name? Sure it doesn't look good if you put something like "Purple Lions," but the team and how they perform is what matters. Also, The Yellow Dragons had a bad team name, but nobody cared because they were good. Choosing a team name is all a personal preference.

Kluthzy had a team name called Cute Animals. They placed 20th or so at DC. Team names don't mean anything. I am with this guy.

Didn't she place 20th out of 20 teams?

And I think as long as you have a clever team name that your whole team likes, then your good.

This is true however, if your going to make a team why not have a really good team name?

Awesome write up! Im putting this in the OP because this is a very good explanation of why having a good team name is so important if you plan to become a serious team.
