Thanks to everyone who submitted a map for the "Map Quest" contest. We have received a ton of maps and couldn't be happier with its success. All of us here at TLN look forward to checking out and judging each one of your submissions in search for the best map. The creator of that map will win a trip to The LAN Network Gaming House. I'd imagine only 1 person would get to go. If not then whats to stop someone who wins from just saying their friend helped to get a buddy to go as well. Either way this is a GREAT contest with one HELL of a reward and I plan on starting my map ASAP.

that would kinda suck if two people work on it and one person can only go. I kinda wish you could bring the team so that they all could experience it together as a team and learn better together than just one person going on his own and end up getting bored just watching pros by himself. but otherwise its a pretty cool prize

Of course. I haven't had internet since Thursday (btw, for the TLN people that usually play with me... that's why you haven't seen me on), so I've been working on my map a lot. There's not much you can add to such a smaller sized map, but I've added necessary things. For example, important structures for cover, new spawn placements, more effective lifts, easier to navigate jump-ups, more aesthetically pleasing objects, and bases that provide a little more cover.

Only thing I'm still trying to get to work are the drop spawns for my weapons.

I'm no good with forge, so I'm not even going to try.

I suck at forging now.. I have lost every contest mlg has put out.. Forge the foundry i lost and the last one also.. So i am pretty much not at the top forger list anymore..

Also i don't have time to play test the maps anymore since i have surgery the 10th and the 23rd do to surgery to remove my cancer.. So if anyone can down load my maps and run games on it and tell me any feedback would be great..

I was curious who had come over to this site specifically for the contest after our conversation earlier, and decided to make a post after reading through the thread. If you want help rebuilding your map on Tempest, I'm more than willing to help. It shouldn't take long and it will improve the map I think.

Most of the people over there are a joke when it comes to MLG. They never play anymore and they never really forge MLG maps much anymore. I've kinda got a chippy attitude when it comes to Forge. I think it'll turn out to be a good thing because it provides motivation for me to crank out good, unique, quality maps.

After I'm officially done working on this one (Trepidation) I have some ideas for an awesome room-based asymmetrical map that I think people will like. It'll be a fun challenge for me because IMO it's easier to make a decent symmetrical map than it is to make a decent asymmetrical map.

I decided to go for it I would hate to miss a chance to go to a pro LAN and see pros play on my map. I am working on my map as we speak on Forge World since I want to submit a map similar to the one I made a little while ago then if it plays well transfer it to tempest if that map has the budget for it. If that map doesn't work out I'll have to do a mad dash to make up another map in a week.

Now that its coming down to the last few days till I have to be done I'm feeling pretty good about my map. I still have a little bit of work with spawns and probably some geometry. It will be done in time for sure though.

Though I'm wondering how the judging will be done. If I finish my map on the 23rd and submit it that only leaves 2 days for them to judge it. Also what if someone submits their map on the night of the 24th Its Christmas eve I doubt people would want to judge/test maps then decide what one is best During Christmas day.

I am very thankful for the opportunity to enter this contest and the generosity of TLN but it just seems like they should take more time before they pick a winner.

There are a lot of good maps in the running for this and it's been a blast checking out and playing on them with many of you.

Agreed, it is even better for me, even thought I didn't get to enter due to hearing about it like a day before it ended. I got to meet some cool forgers who have helped me with the map I am currently making. And when our map design wasn't using interlocking/geoglitching/ and two years ahead of ghost merging and we were all hungry to learn the new glitches so that we could produce a better looking map?

No. This would result in people getting all of their friends to vote for their map, or it would end up in a popularity contest. For example, I know a lot of people would vote for me just because I'm a mod, and then a lot of people would vote for Salot just because he made Onslaught.

I still think that it depends on what they are looking for. There were some very good maps submitted to the contest, and a lot of them have a chance of taking home the prize.

Now before I get told to be patient and respect how busy people are, this is becoming irritating for me. I DO understand, trust me. They released the TLN Talk episode saying how they were working to beat the deadline. That told me that they were pretty close to finishing. The episode was also recorded a few days before. The second this is that they didn't post talking about another announcement date. That also tells me that they are close. But the fact is, I have given this website over 1,000 views by myself with the three announcement dates combined. (That's what I get for having a computer next to me at all times.)

I am pretty sure Mr.P has some form of job if its owns his own business or work for a company. Unless he won the lottery or is part of the Mob, i am pretty sure he has some form of income coming in to pay for all the TLN stuff.

This would be a bigger issue to me if it were any normal person, but since it's the Pennacchios and they have done a TON for the pros and the community, it's not that big that they slip up on getting a minor deadline (minor in the sense of importance) met.
I'll remain patient because they deserve to not feel super pressured on this. Now it would be a different story in a month.

ehh... i just have funny suspicion that mine wasn't selected. it has nowhere the amount of downloads as yours or anyone else's map. Plus my newer maps feel a lot better than my first one.

I wouldn't worry about my map. There is too much screenlag on it for it to be taken seriously with the version that they downloaded. Newer version has a lot less since I have been item swapping, and I could probably get rid of it all if I made it an uggo map, but the version they have probably never even got out of the gate, haha.

Playing your map tho.. had a great feel to it. whether or not they would ask you if you had a newer one if it went to the circuit. look at killa kc file share looks like a map that was featured on forgehub might of got picked up and they are making adjustments of some sorts

That was the most stripped down version I felt like it was possible to make, and I passed it to KC along with medium and "normal" versions, each with progressively more sacrifices made in the name of fixing the performance issues and passing Bungie's tests. Same problem with the version of the map I submitted for TLN. It wasn't completely finished because of the time restraint and it has some screen lag issues top-mid. My newest version is perfect though.

They had the contest to bring other forgers over here because lets be honest no one can forge over here. So yes they are letting everyone down. Just cuz they have money and have a prize doesn't mean they can be puppetmasters.

I stick by my original statement. Here's a better example. When gears of war 3 (or any other game) got delayed they didn't wait until the deadline and be like... yeah we don't have the game done yet. They made a decision to let their community down by extending the deadline to create something better, knowing they wouldn't miss that new deadline.

Here is the thing Flik, Mr. P replied to me directly on another thread about the new deadline. The thread was for venting problems without getting flamed. So naturally, I brought up how irratated I was about the Map Contest because it was already Feburary 8th. Later in the forum Mr. P saw my post and replied to me directly saying that they had narrowed it down to about nine maps, and that the should announce the winner Feburary 14th. I was a nice enough guy to bring it over here where it should be known to everyone.

Don't get me wrong, because I do understand where you are coming from. I was also annoyed with the no official announcement and that got Mr. P's attention for the reply.

That map doesn't exist in this pool. A map that plays hill well or slayer well doesn't necessarily play flag or bomb well and vice versa. Out of the maps submitted, they each have their niche. There really isn't one that stands head and shoulders above all others at every gametype.

So, I really think that the winner will be subjectively decided on what gametype that the pro's like the best. I would have to assume slayer or flag. And after that, it becomes a little more clear.

But, beyond that, good luck to all and congratulations to the eventual winner!

I don't really care about when it gets announced, but it's kind of funny you guys can somehow justify them ignoring previous deadlines and just johning for them by saying stuff like "well I'm sure their busy..." You could be a single mom with 3 kids going for a graduate degree; there is no way they haven't had time to look at all the maps by now. Just being straight up, I'm sure a third-a half of the maps or so were complete garbage and could be tossed out immediately. That's just being realistic judging by the maps you typically see in the MLG forums. From there it should only take at most a month to have a few other people evaluate the maps, come to a consensus about the top 3-5, and then spend the last few days of the contest heavily play-testing the top 5 or so maps.

Like I said, I don't even care that much. I just think it's bad for people to give feedback implying that ignoring deadlines is okay because that just means it will keep happening. People who TRULY like their community won't be afraid to tell them when it's out of line because that is what will lead to an overall improved experience for everyone.

It's not that big of a deal to me since I know I'm not going to win, but it's been nearly 2 months since the initial deadline of Christmas Eve. That's almost 60 days without a winner. TLN shouldn't have had that much of an issue taking 10-20 minutes out of every day to evaluate/eliminate a map. There should be a winner by now.

It was said to be narrowed down to 2 maps yesterday... how long does it really take to decide between 2 maps? Even a thorough decision between 2 maps shouldn't take more than an extra day.

I've heard that from a couple guys in and out of customs I've been in. I don't know the people that were saying it but they seemed legit so I thought I'd ask.
It would make sense though because they have been really quiet about this whole contest for a month now.

I get the vibe that this contest -- with such a huge prize at stake -- is low on the list of priorities for TLN. I'm disappointed that the people in charge didn't come up with a decent game plan in order to prevent something like this from happening.

That would be very iritating and unfair for Mr. P to do. But there is no way that would happen anyway. I can already tell Mr. P wouldn't allow it. And to be honest, if it is the map I am thinking of, the reamake didn't seem right. I don't think that map would make it anyway IMO.

1 map is in/near the coliseum
Anyone remember where they built their maps? It's not Displacement, and I think that eliminates quite a few more as well. (Amalgam, Channel, Weapons eliminate Preserve, and Carl's map all don't jive with this data either)

I think I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the maps are Submission and Downfall/Access. After looking at weapon kills and map placement on game-viewer and remembering the placement of these maps, those three make some sense to me.

Actually, with the number of games played on what I think is Submission, I think that it could be characterized as a safe bet for the winner. As much as I would not like to see an Onslaught re-imagination win this contest, that would be my bet.

I would be rather disappointed with the judges if they selected it over some of the very excellent original designs that came out of this contest. I would also not expect to see it on the MLG circuit if it wins; my reasoning is that KC has already rejected an infinite number of them, no reason why this one would fare any better.

Anyway, if I'm right, congrats guys.
